In one of the Computer magazines I read that V/M were having problems with e-mail. Help will be appreciated as to how to trace this problem.

In his previous job in A/U(with a local goverment dept) e-mails came no problem.

I read a similar problem , about 6 months ago, in either PC PRO or PC ADVISOR magazine.I'm sorry i cannot remember any more than that:-I think they gave a workaround , but again I'm unsure. an email to each of their help forums and/ or help pages might get you an answer.I can't look it up as I've passed on the magazines.
I take it you've tried adding his email address details to your address book?Sometimes that is enough to stop it being treated as spam. Do the same on the Virgin email page if possible. I havn't actually tried the second bit.
If it is a Virgin problem , maybe you could open a googlemail account if you hav'nt already got one, and ask him to address his emails to that?
