I agree COD2 will look better than the original. Same with quite a few games really, but when we don't know the capabilities of the computer, I was erring on the side of caution. For example this lappy with it's integrated graphics couldn't cope with COD2, and my last PC, which I only ditched a year ago, only barely coped with COD2, after I'd detuned all the graphics options.
