he said the PS3s his but you say its yours so thats a sticking point

did you try temp turning off ALL security and firewall options on the router , then see if the ps3 would then connect...?, that at least would rule out some abscure security compatability in the current firmware of your/his PS3...

but then that still doesnt really explain or hint at why a direct wired to the router didnt work to me.

i assume you can plug in a second generic windows PC and it will be given a valid and working IP by the DHCP server on the router?.

what version ps3 firmware btw, the latest i assume.
