When you call this number and it asks to enter your virgin phone number, you are the presented with a list of options, choose internet and if a recorded announcement detailing outages in your area is not listed,then there are no major problems.

Although if you really need to get online, you could try using dial up by using your same user name and password and setting the dial up number to 179 or your local dial up number,then go to the Virgin Media service status page. You will be charge 3p per minute for this internet access,however,claim a refund when you get your next bill.
