Again teaboy is possibly a low level telesales guy who may just have enough information to do the job. and no more. It may be in the commercial Interest of play TV to limit the amount of information until the service is launched on the 1st of September. I believe we should at least see what they have to offer before we demonise this company, and if they do offer a good alternative to what is offered from Sky or Virgin, then good luck to them.

3 HD content is widely available now (there are numerous HD channels broadcasting now), what you are doing is masking the fact that all this box does (if indeed any boxes are ever delivered) is upscale standard def pictures - BUT the box can' upscale live or streaming TV, it can only upscale recordings (as noted on your company's sign up form - http://www.go-to.org.uk/playtv/ -

General broadband can be used to stream general TV broadcast and not HDTV, they claim to "upscale" these streams to HD quality. Try looking at some of these cheap HDTVs at asda/tesco broadcasting normal TV, the picture quality is worse than viewing from a normal tv sets, however some of these expensive Sony TV with a decent "upscaler" the picture quality can be improved vastly. Even some of these expensive DVD players will claim to have a built in "upscaler". I think when playtv say they upscale to HD quality is that you don't need to depend on the cheap upscaler built into the HDTV set. I don't think they will stream HDTV (non upscaling) quality however they do claim on the website "HD, High Definition video library", which i believe would need to be uploaded to the set top box first before its viewed.

I use BT Vision and have used Homechoice (now called Tiscali TV) as well as Sky and Virgin Media in the past. IPTV needs a line speed of at least 2MB to function properly (especially if you want to use your broadband on your PC too). The issue is not about whether or not you have a 25/1 or 50/1 contention ratio connnection (the lower the ratio the fewer people you are 'competing' with for broadband bandwidth), the line speed itself is vital too - if it runs on 500kb, it is not broadcast-quality IPTV. [/p]
I think they claim the service will broadcast FROM 500kbs upwards, and the quaility will depend upon your connection speed and internet provider. I use joost a free p2p IPTV service, who plans to intergrate the service into TV sets, which only broadcasts at 500kbs,and also claims "TV broadcasting quality". Even babelgum broadcasts at 500kb and even BT vision once claimed before the launch that the service would broadcast from 500kb. I dont see the point your trying to make.

You also made a claim because they are a small company they will not be able to deliver the service. Joost is also a small iptv company, already watched by over million viewers after just a few months. Plus "Global Digital Broadcast" has been developing the technology for the past 5 years. Again I would like to see this service before coming to a rash judgement.

Thanks.

John.
