So if the padding doesn't get dropped one of the recordings will fail so the V+ cleverly strips the padding to accomodate all recordings. Thanks once again for the advice.
If your only recording 1 or 2 programmes and the 3rd programme doesn't overlap them at all you'll find the V+ box will record them with all with padding.

Many thanks for this - really helpful. This is exactly what's happening, so I'll do a mix of manual recording/V+ recording when I'm recording consecutive programmes.
