I have a Sony Bravia and I have an HD hdd/dvd recorder connected via HDMI, unfortunatly the HDMI connection does not carry a switching signal unlike the scart plug, so unless somebody knows different there is no other way. I have a Marmitek multi remote and have a micro set to switch the recorder on and the tv to the HDMI on one button, saves a lot of hassel.

You should be able in the settings on the sony, to make it skip all the AV inputs you don't use.
