you should replace the Lithium battery. Replace with a standard Lithium battery model #CR2032 available at your local pharmacy, convenience store, office supply store, or general retailers. Sega of America does not sell the Saturn Lithium battery as a replacement part.
Having had a look at one thats gathering dust in the back of a cupboard you should be able to swap the battery without any trouble. It's behind a compartment at the right-rear of the console.
