Computor systems are similar to electric motors in that the most stress occurs at the moment of activation. Once running and up to speed things just tick over nicely.

So why turn off your modem? Why turn off your computor? The only thing I ever turn off is my monitor.

You can usually bet your life that if trouble is gonna occur it will manifest itself during a reboot or initial switch on.

Not a fix for your problem but maybe a work around.
