It sounds like you know your way around a computer, so forgive me if this sounds like a stupid question, but does it only happen with torrents?
Not knowing how a Linux distro. is handed out, I don't know if they are torrents, but the ISO lead me to believe it is.

I used to have problems with torrent files, where if it went over a certain speed the connection would drop. It was just a case of changing some settings and it works fine now. It might be worth ruling that out before running coax. and e/net cabling here there and everywhere.
