Punky - I'm in a similar, but different, position at the moment.
I had a delivery from Sh*tty Link with two parcels on the delivery note. He only gave one to my wife and 'went to look for the other' while she signed. He then said only one in the van and 'the computer says one' but didn't give the wife the chance to amend the delivery note. Now their saying both were delivered!! The missing package was a £30 PC case, probably easily mistaken for 'valuable' complete PC. For some bizarre reason the retailer are choosing to believe the courier over the customer!!
As far as I can see the only remedy is to issue a small claims court action against the supplier (Dabs) as your contract is with them, not the courier. They may back down, but if not the judge has to decide 'on the balance of probability' who is telling the truth.
