Having debranded and unlocked a V3 Razr for a friend it's not that hard to do, also recovered a couple of XDAs from failed flash upgrades, unlocked them at the same time (XDAII and XDA Exec also an SPV M5000 orange branded Exec)

I can see the justification for the initial sim lock, after all the network subsidises the phone knowing they will make the money back on the contract over 12 months, but it's annoying
