you speak to customer services - their job is to stop you leaving by offering you a current 'normal' deal - retentions is the last resort (also known as cancellations). customer services transfer you to retentions when they have given up trying to keep you. retentions is where the real money is to be made if you're an existing customer. e.g. they once offered me half price TV family pack plus phone - for as long as I wanted - so £28 a month was reduced to £14. all because I wanted to ditch my TV and phone and just have a cable modem.

So you think you're having a pop at a southerner do you?
Well, I'm actually from Halifax, next to Huddersfield. That's why I'm so miserable. To define miserable, have a walk round Huddersfield bus station (if it's still there!). So ey up lad, get back down t'mill. There's sunshine and air and everything down here y'know.

No Dagga, not having a pop at all, just don't go on chat anymore, thought you were him (he's a good mate) ... As for miserable, well as I live in Hudds, yes the bus station is still there. I know what you mean.., personally though I prefer a hilly countyside like the lake district....

How long does it generally take for the speed to be upgraded? I can't see any change after rebooting?
|
It should be almost instant sometimes even whilst they still on the phone with you, if nothing happens within 2 hours I would reboot the modem to try and force then ring back if that doesnt work.

Re: NTL offering package to challenge talk talk
well i must be of no value to NTL what so ever, well i contacted them stayed on hold for 1/2 hour , was asked why i was cancelling my services, explained about the talk talk deal, the bloke just said yes good offer and cancelled my services from 18th may (30 days notice). will prob have to ring them back to stop cancelation, well peed off.
have looked into switching, bt have confirmed free reconection but minimum 3 months connection, which might be to much of a pain 3 months with bt before i could then switch to talk talk.

i held for over 30 minutes this morning 1st i got through to the normal number where the lady told me she needed to hear the accont holders voice for me to cancel. So the other half spoke and the lady at ntl said ok hold while i transfer you ! to which i waited another 10 mins then when the next lady came on i told her my story and she said she had never heard of talk talk ! ( i think she had just been released from prison ) she then put me on hold and came back 10 mins later and said did i realise that i had to have a bt phone line for 3 months ect ect and i said yes i know. At which point she said how about we offer you 1mb broadband ( guranteed) tv base pack and talk unlimited 24 for £21.50 per month for 6 months which will be reviewed in 6 months. now i just hold my breath to see what the bill looks like

Re: NTL offering package to challenge talk talk
I phoned to ask for a replacement remote (they told they have run out) and then they offered me to reduce my total bill by a fiver per month and on top of that I can make unlimited phone calls evening and weekends.
Is this "NTL sale" week? Bizzare....

Did she actually take proper steps top ensure that the lady she was speaking to was actually the account holder?

I'm totally with you on the bill inspection-did you get this person's name?
You know what? I'm not sure you do need a BT line, & I think ntl may well be spinning you a line.
I may be wrong, but their whole package is to temp people away from the likes of BT & onto their network.
I'll check & let you know, but it sounds like ntl scare mongering to me....

So you have to switch back to BT (who will no doubt do all they can to keep your custom), then switch to Talk Talk.
Either way, ntl letting customers go to any rival provider spells bad news.

I take broadband and telephone, have tv thru sky. i am in a talk talk area because i have inputted a relatives tel no/postcode on thier website who live around the corner, site informed ok and would take 3 weeks to switch.
as i stated eaarlier to reactivate bt line i have to subscribe to bt for a minimum of 3months, so i might ring ntl and tell them not to cancel my broadband and then ring bt and get the ball rolling on the tel line, or i could just un-cancel both and hope NTL come up with and official offering.

Re: NTL offering package to challenge talk talk
When i phoned talk talk they told me that i would not need to switch to BT but just have BT take the line over which would cost about £20 or so then i could go straight to talk talk. I dont know how true this is though.
