I think you probably have to ring retentions and ask to leave first.

Re: NTL offering package to challenge talk talk
I've tried this a few times over the past 4 or 5 yrs with ntl... always worked. My last deal was 10mb for 6 months at テつ」19 a month, this has only just finished about a month ago... I only got that because of ringing retentions and threatening to go with Be.. Plus they messed up my bill, so I used that as a gripe too. I'd feel a bit cheeky ringing them back to try and get another deal so soon after my last one.

Okay i just rang up, and i was on hold for about 20 mins with the whole thing lasting about 35 mins Good job the call was free
Anyway, this is what i got:
2 meg broadband =テつ」12.49 (I'm currently paying テつ」17.99 for one meg)
Phone Talk Unlimited 24 + free international calls: テつ」12.25
This totals テつ」24.74, but she said i'll be getting a credit every month of テつ」3.75 to make up the difference of the Talk Talk plan, so will only be paying the テつ」20.99.
So wooot thanks for telling us about this OP, it's saving me about テつ」25 a month i reckon
One thing though, does that mean i'm on 2 meg now what do i have to do? Does this mean i get Broadband Plus too?
She also said that all 2 meg customers will be getting upgraded in the next 6-8 months to 10 meg

Re: NTL offering package to challenge talk talk
after being on hold for 30 minutes they offered me
1mb broadband
talk unlimited 24
base pack tv
テつ」21.49 but this is for 6 months only when i will have to ring them again because there deals change all the time so for 6months テつ」21.49 and free uk calls 24hrs a day not bad as i was paying テつ」33 and call charges so a nice saving

Re: NTL offering package to challenge talk talk
Hi again,
Gaz, I did say I wanted to leave.... and it wasn't customer services who offered me the deal, it was someone who I was forwarded to... I presume retentions.
As for International, didn't ask, don't care as I've no use for it.
What counts for me is the approx テつ」20 savings I make per month, from テつ」24.99 for 2MB BB plus line rental and call charges (around テつ」14 - テつ」20) totalling around テつ」40 to a fixed price of テつ」20.99.

Re: NTL offering package to challenge talk talk
only retentions have the power to offer these 'under the counter' deals.

Re: NTL offering package to challenge talk talk
OK - I called to cancel - held for 45 minutes to speak to disconnections Told the quite sympathetic Lady I was taking up the Talk Talk offer. She gave in without a fight and started to process my cancellation During this process I asked if they were prepared to keep my custom (since 1999) with any price matches? After some light haggling I agreed to stay with 2Mb Broadband - Talk Unlimited 24 - Line Rental - Phone extras ie itemised billing - call divert - voicemail - for テつ」21. I rarely dial outside the UK and have no great need for a greater bandwidth - I'm probably a typical customer in that sense...
She said I would need to call back in three months when there would be a new offer available - or I could just renew this offer for 12 months.
Whilst she was setting the new pricing up - I asked her about the state of play - and she was very frank in saying they were losing customers 'constantly' - people were leaving and cancelling in droves. The tone was very much that she had given up the 'fight' to keep customers now
Personally I have had 'issues' with NTL Technical support - who hasn't... But overall the service has been good - so I am quite prepared to stay for now with this new offer.

This was inevitable, & something that I felt would happen.
What ntl should now be doing IMO is putting together an official deal to offer customers who phone to jump ship to CPW-they should also be locking those customers in by making them agree to an 18 month contract (same as CPW)
No customers=No business.
No customers=Uhnappy shareholders.
Will ntl ever learn?

Re: NTL offering package to challenge talk talk
So what number do you ring to get through to retentions?
I did tell them I was thinking of cancelling, but still no luck.

I don't know if i rang the right one, but i dialled 150, option 2, then he put me through to disconnections. It worked anyway
How long does it generally take for the speed to be upgraded? I can't see any change after rebooting?

Re: NTL offering package to challenge talk talk
Don't worry, I'll keep paying the full price to subsidise you grabbing freeloaders!
...but when my 12 months are up, I'll be ringing up like the rest of you
This is a crazy situation though. Usually, by the time retentions speak to a customer, they have already chosen their new ISP, taken a 12-month contract, set up direct debits etc. Many of them can't be persuaded to stay at this point, whatever the deal.
NTL need to discount heavily or they'll lose much more money in lost customers.

How about offering a well priced, well specified product to begin with instead of offering knee jerk price reductions all the time?

Hey Dagga, you sound like a miserable old one I knew in chat... he lives in hampshire too...
Anyway after paying full for 10 years or so, we existing customers should get some good deals too, not just the newbies !!
