I was told something similar for my TU24. It remains to be seen whether it actually happens though.

As I scrutinise my monthly ntl bill more closely than any other service I pay for, I'll soon put them right if they 'forget'.

And my offer is for 6 months, I was told this was because in 6 months time they would more than likely have even better offers?

this is the case for me, my 10meg discount is 6 months and I have been told to ask CS to renew it during june for the 2nd 3 months.

Re: NTL offering package to challenge talk talk

It seems a bit ridiclous that people are paying £35 for 10mb broadband when they are giving out offers at £10

Re: NTL offering package to challenge talk talk

As noted earlier, phoned Wednesday and spoke to CR - very helpful - matched TalkTalk. Said that someone would be in touch to install a Cable Modem. No phone call but NTL Engineer called in today and set it up (luckily MrsB was in!). So, in theory, now have 10MB for £10 - result (though doesn't seem much faster?). Will call next week to ensure it has been applied to my account (as would not pay £35 for this - I was reasonably happy paying £10 for 1MB until the market went much faster!).

Thats correct, thats what i was told, the system is set for 3 months and has to be reminded to re-issue the changes, lets just hope the system is automatic !

My old package was 1Mb BB, family pack and 321 dialling, costing about £48 before call charges - totalling between £70-90 each month all-in

I was offered

2MB BB @ 12.50 for 12 months
Free TU24 for 6 months

For a total cost of 43.25 - which I expect to be a saving of about £30+ per month for 6 months (£180)

Not a bad payout for a 30 min call
Or it wouldn't have been if that's what i'd got.

My 2Mb BB was for 6 months and my TU24 was for 3 months - not a major problem, I'll just ring them up again in a couple of months to extend - or leave whichever takes their fancy

The MAJOR issue was this....

Firstly, they performed a part-month upgrade to TU24. Although they added the discount from the beginning of the next month, they failed to add the discount for the remainder of the current month - so my "Free" 3 month TU24 actually ended up consting me money. This was quickly solved with a call to CS - though i'll have to pay it and get an account credit, meaning that this month's bill is actually considerably MORE expensive than before I called......... (partially due to the details below)

More difficult was the fact that instead of upgrading my 1Mb to 2Mb, they added 2Mb to my bill and left the 1Mb on there too - so I was paying 12.50 for half price 2Mb, PLUS 17.99 for 1Mb ..... Doh.

On the initial call to CS where I sorted out the TU24 rebate, I also got them to address this. 2 hours later my internet access died completely. My router picked up a 10.0.0.0 IP address, but the registration page refused to accept my PID. After being bounced between Tech services and CS for about 45 mins, I was eventulaly told that TS needed to send a refresh to my STB to re-enable the broadband access. (why can't TS do this? - seems like a standard fix) I suspect that removing the 1Mb from my account sent a "disable" signal, even though the 2Mb was still on my account.

So, lessons learned

1) Ensure you check your bill after discounts have been "applied"
2) Some problems can be resolved by getting CS to send a refresh to your STB
3) prepare .gif file, clearly indicating the relative size and position of **** and elbow for CS - they appear to need one.

Re: NTL offering package to challenge talk talk

Seems to be one slightly confusing area in these delas - i.e. the international package.

I beleive NTL do a crappy discounted international calls package, and they also now match the TalkTalk free international calls offer if you and lucky when you play teh NTL discount game. I haven't been able to find any info on the NTL version of free international calls, so I called to find out exactly what they give you.
Seems to be good news - they offer free calls to 30 countires rather than TalkTalk's 28. Tried to find out what the extra countires were - one was India. The other countires are basically most of Europe, US, Canada, Australia and NZ.

Re: NTL offering package to challenge talk talk

Well I've resisted calling Retentions up to now to get unethical offers when I've no intention of cancelling, well not the broadband anyway. That was until I saw the ntl and telewest web pages today... TV, Phone and Broadband for £15 for three months for new customers...

I've been a cable customer since the cable was first laid in my street 15/16 years ago and never gone for these offers. I have seen over that time how ntl/telewest et all treat existing customers as opposed to new customers (a bit like banks, new customers get better interest rates..) so I thought, my turn...Did have 10mb broadband, but got that reduced to 2mb (soon to be 4...) with talk unlimited for a snippet under £18 for 12 months. Plus half price line rental for 12 months too. So that's about £5 off my tv/phone bill as well.

No more ethics... I've joined the low-life majority and am better off already... The rule I've learnt (and its only taken 3 and a half decades to learn it..) is that ethics and money don't mix. If you can get a better deal for yourself, do it. Now for changing that HSBC account next...
