Billing and Contract query....

Hi everyone,

In April I took out Telewest's 3 for £30 service, and in July I moved out,and passed everything onto my father, where in this he paid the bills on time.

In October, my Dad moved out, and the house was passed onto the lodger, but I had a call from the company in November 2005 saying that it hadn't been paid and I owe over £200, when it fact it's the fault of the lodger. Since then, I've heard nothing.

What I am worried about is, will I be tracked down by them, by having debts delivered to my door and can the contract be broken, so I can pay a fee?

Re: Billing and Contract query....

How is it the lodgers fault if you took out a contract and then passed it on to other people without informing TW about the change of details etc? You only had the contract 3 months when you moved out so you would have had to honour it for 9 more months before you could terminate it without cost.
Trusting a lodger to pay a bill like that which hasn't got his details on was not a good move as it doesn't really impact the lodger if he fails to pay as the debt is incurred by the named party on the contract.
Is the contract still in your name? If so it's your debt I'm afraid AFAIK.

What it was, I told the lodger to change the details from my name into his, but it seems it was never done as Telewest rang me back in November. The bills were paid every month, and I only found out about the unpaid bill on the day Telewest rang.

I don't remember any of the codes to access the account, so what can be done?

Re: Billing and Contract query....

Doubt if the lodger would have been allowed to change anything on the account since it is the original account holder only who has the power to do that. The only thing you can do now is contact TW and discuss it with them to find some form of agreement with them.
As I have already stated though, the debt will be in the name of the person that the account is in (unless something has been signed and dated stating otherwise).
