I owed NTL TEN months worth of Broadband charges
Right, I presumed that the Broadband money came out of my account as a direct debit, the same as the phone bill does. Not so. I missed a payment for my Phone and was disconnected from Broadband, I paid the phone bill (£12.88) and then rang CS to get connected again. Then was told I owe £196 for 10 months broadband (£24.99 p/m) I was fuming and asked why the hell wasn't I told before, I was told that I got a bill sent to my email address (which I since checked and have NO emails at all) every month.
Why the f*ck didn't they disconnect me after no payment for the first month? Why wait 10 months before they disconnected me?

Because for some reason the billing system never flagged your account as unpaid? NTLs billing system has missed a few accounts like this, it's annoying but then you "presumed" something was happening without actually seeking proof of it so NTL weren't the only ones to error in this (IMHO).
You could always offer to pay a certain ammount a month extra till it's paid back.

Yes the same thing happened to me 2 years ago (for 12 months they had not taken any money for the broadband) but the difference was that I saw that the money was not been taken and tried to fix it though CS but that did not work so in the end I had to go to nthellworld.com where one of the admins helped me get it sorted out. (Still had to pay over £200 even though I was always calling to try and fix it)
Nice to see nothing has changed!!

Loads of people unfortunately mate Hopefully the new billing system/ platform will help minimise this sort of problem.
It always pays to check your statements when they come in, computers are only as smart as the people that use or program them

there is also an initiative where customers have been identified who have services and aren't paying from them, they are being advised by letter that the charges will be added to their next bill

Anybody actually being able to set up DD with NTL should consider themselves lucky. I had a right mightmare trying to set up my DD..You'd think they didnt want our money.

Re: I owed NTL TEN months worth of Broadband charges
I had the opposite experience: when the price for BB went up, for two months they were only debiting me for half the new price. But I wasn't just letting this happen; I have to admit it took me that long to notice. I just got the notification emails as usual and gave it no more thought. It wasn't until I went through my inbox clearing out old messages that I read the last two DD notices and realised. I emailed them, and the next one was for the correct amount.
Dim but honest, you might say.

Re: I owed NTL TEN months worth of Broadband charges
Be fair, ntl are very busy debiting customers who have cancelled their services and left.
I suppose it all works out even in the end, keep charging people who have left whilst not charging some current customers.
Probably done to balance the books.

Re: I owed NTL TEN months worth of Broadband charges
lol when i first joined NTL boardband from nice dail up free serve( they still around?) i took the 128k package, by end of the day i was on the silver then the gold lol...my punishment for demanding such speed..... 7 months of billing hell, i was being charged for bronze, silver, and gold every month they wouold close and open new accounts to no avail...finally some scottish woman fixed it after around a week on back and forth phone calls, and credited the money back, then added 3months free on top.

Re: I owed NTL TEN months worth of Broadband charges
Ok heres my problem, ive been with ntl for years now, and because of a change in emplyment i stopped paying for my ntl via direct debit, and payed on a bill thing. Anyway, i rang ntl and they said they would send me a bill. Weeks went by and no bill. So i rang them after a month and the guy on the phone was amazed that i had called and that i am gettng my bb still and that he would get it sorted. Anyway, still no jpy and no bill. I rang again and was told i would recieve a bill, and i was assured that i wouldnt have to keep ringing customer services about this.
Its now been about 4 months now, ive had no bills nothing come out of my bank, and no one at ntl has been able to help me.
any suggestions?

Re: I owed NTL TEN months worth of Broadband charges
they take for ours as and when they feel like it. As often happens, they take 2 months payment after skipping a month. We leave enough in our bank account to pay - but as sometimes is the case, they take out when they shouldn't leaving us having to stump up £25 to the bank as an overdraft. That leaves us short and borrowing money - which has to be paid back. If they could be more flexible as regards payment arrangements, then everything would be absolutely dandy. As it stands, they're not - when they could and the whole thing would be as sweet as candy.
