making sense of contracts

I'm moving from Sky to VM next week. I know it's an 18month contract, but I want to be sure about what can be done. I asked VM about changing from VIP to Premiere after the 6 months half price ends. They said it was OK but would restart the 18 month contract. Is that right? With Sky the contract is 12 months, which you can change once a month to whatever you want.

I don't need sports/movies, but the 6 months of 100Mb broadband would be nice. Apart from that and price, the 2 collections are much to same to me.

Re: making sense of contracts

I think what you have been told is highly questionable and you should get it in writing.

It is normal in Virgin Media contracts that you must keep all services in a bundle (collection) at a minimum of the starting level for the duration of the minimum period.

This means that you would not be able to reduce the BB from 100Mb to 60Mb.

From the Legal Stuff:

"Downgrading a service in your Collection may result in you losing the discount applicable for that Collection."

The reason you get 6 months at half price is because you have made a commitment to giving Virgin Media 18 months worth of revenue at a particular level which allows them to give you half price for six months.

Re: making sense of contracts

I'd also say it's a bit suspect.
