Best price of 50MB/120MB service
hi,
I don't really have a problem with VM service, what started bothering me somehow is how much I pay.
I'm on 50/5 service and pay £38 a month, I don't have/want phone or TV service.
I'm out of contract, can cancel free of charge with 30 day notice (I believe)
I'm due for upgrade in July to 120/10, double upload would make me happier, don't really care about the DL, 50 is enough anyway.
just by looking at their website, for new customers for 100MB service, they charge: £29.75 a month for the first 3 months, then £34.75 a month.
not much but it adds up.
till these days, virgin has been the only choice for real fast broadband, but BT started with the Infinity, and it doesn't look too bad. The exchange is about 20m from the house, so there won't be too much of s speed loss anyway.
with their street check I get this:
Broadband option BT Infinity
Broadband speed range 64.2Mb download 20.0Mb upload
When you can get it Now
BT Infinity 2 works out at £36.75 a month. though that includes landline which I don't need.
I don't really want to leave VM, but how much of a discount do you think I can get if I phone them and threaten to leave? Been with VM for about 5-6 years now, had 50MB from the early days.
also I don't mind 12 month contract in exchange for cheaper price.
thanks

Re: Best price of 50MB/120MB service
I am on the same as you, I rang VM up a few weeks back and the guy in retentions offered me a phone line & to double my BB to 100MB for £30.50pm for both IIRC. Sounded ok to me but they also wanted another £50 for installation, said no at the time.

Re: Best price of 50MB/120MB service
the upload increase will happen after the download upgrade. a date for that i have no idea. some say after the area has been download upgraded. some say after the full download upgrade process.
id advise you to get BT infinity, youll most probably get a much better service.
with regards to the landline. i got a bit confused so to clear things up for you.
18 month contract for Infinity alone
12 month contract for the landline with the option of a saver option where you pay upfront and save a few pennies. after the 12months landline contract you can port over to a cheaper landline provider or get rid. also note the calls you have to make to avoid being charged.. 2 calls i think which can be free calls.

Can BT Infinity tell you in advance what your BB speed will be?

yes. go on their site and check what speeds you can get either by entering a BT landline number or your postcode if you havent got a BT landline active

Re: Best price of 50MB/120MB service
Thanks for that, after doing the test I found out that my present provider V/M is still the best.
I made the mistake of moving over to Sky last year, and was glad to get back with V/M again

Re: Best price of 50MB/120MB service
so rang them up.
and they offered me 100MB + phone on 18mths contract for £30 a month, but have to pay £50 for the installation.
(£32.70/ month if installation is included)
don't need the phone, but they said this way it's cheaper than if I took BB on its own (£37.50 a month)
do you think it's any good?

Re: Best price of 50MB/120MB service
BT Infinity 32/6 so I'll keep my 50/5 at staff prices. And at some point it will go to 100/10 and more.
