Package negotiation/retention?
I've been nominated to phone up VM and try to renegotiate our package
Had the service for about 9/10 years, dating back to Blueyonder/telewest.
Had a glance through the bill and breaking it down into the key parts
XL broadband (20mb)
XL Phone
XL Tv
V box
The basic cost coming to a few pennies short of £100 per month
I'll definatly have to phone up regardless because one way or another we're reducing the package, but a second opinion on what we ought to be getting is welcome
For the moment just "arming" myself with the right information and checking through bills
Thanks in advance

Re: Package negotiation/retention?
I was pretty much in the same boat. Definately insist on speaking to retentions.
I recently received a bill MUCH higher than usual, standard customer services removed a V+ discount I was on, as no longer available and insisted there was nothing they could do. After speaking to retentions they sorted it and I am currently on ..
Tivo XL
Additional V+ box
20mb Broadband (Still wondering if I should be on 30 as 20 no longer listed)
M Phone
£49.00 pm
Which I am pretty happy with.

Re: Package negotiation/retention?
To the OP,
You're paying far too much for what you're getting you need to ring in. For around £100 you could have ViP50 with
2 Boxes(one will be Tivo)
XL TV
XL Phone
50Mb broadband
Sky Sports(on both boxes)
Sky movies(on both boxes)
HD Pack including Movies and Sports HD on both boxes.
All for "around" £103ish.....

Re: Package negotiation/retention?
Got through to retentions and sorted it, same package as above for about £3 more than what we were paying previously
Got to wait a couple weeks for it to all get setup but we just wanted this done/dusted before new year.

Re: Package negotiation/retention?
Ouch!!!, £100 per month.
I have 3 phone lines, one with call anytime (or whatever they call it), one with the top mobile package, and one with the lower one. 100mb broadband. xl TV in the bedroom. And will soon be getting a 500mb Tivo with all channels except sports. And I'm only paying about £120 or so.
You really do need to speak to retentions.

Re: Package negotiation/retention?
We're not overly fussed about the net part have been on 20mb for donkeys years and nearly all our download traffic occurs during the night to avoid getting traffic managed when we actually need to use the connection
In any case we're not heavy downloaders these days, most of what we do get is digital distribution stuff (steam, origin, etc) and short of virgin coming up with their own content servers for stuff like that I don't think we'd think about the 100mb connection at additional cost
Would be great if they came up with some sort of package like that.. because its a kick in the teeth that despite buying your games/etc instead of pirating isps attitude towards digital distribution feels vastly outdated
It won't be long before most high street shops sell only the key code to activate the games tbh
I mean most phsyical games you buy need tons of updates/patching just to get them to launch as it is
Either way we intend to give this revamped package deal a go for a while and then review later, as previously stated we have been with vm for a heck of a long time and till now its been convenient for us having the bills consolidated etc.. plus theres a lack of alternative providers in my area which doesn't leave much for other options so we're sort of stuck
thanks for the replies

Re: Package negotiation/retention?
We had an engineer over on Wednesday to add a box, move old one and upgrade our broadband.
We were last to be seen, I'm assuming this was because our job was an easy/quick indoors job, which required no cabling/drilling. Which was probably a good thing because it was pitch black out when he showed up.
Friendly chap was done in 30 mins or so.
Early days but so far everything seems alright, was a bit skeptical about using the new hub thingie but we did keep our original one (old faithful!) which is now having a well deserved nap in the spare parts box
Either way, worth the £3 extra a month
Would urge anybody in a simular position to ring up 150 and go through to retentions, make sure you are getting your moneys worth because next year is going to be worse than the last financially!
Thanks for the replies and happy holidays
