An offer too good to be true?

I am currently only get 100mb from virgin, and nothing else. Today I had a call from VM (0800 0520980) offering me the basic tv package and phone package all for free (no additional monthly charge, and no instillation charge).

Well, I'm a Northerner and you get nowt for nowt. I can't see a con at all so I ask her to call me back on Monday (it will be the 10th). I immediately called Virgin Media to see if they could replicate this deal and the best they can do would be a £49 install charge and an additional £3 a month.

So, what is the chance that she is just lying to earn some commission? Is there anything I can do to protect myself from it if I agree to go ahead? I don't want to be in a position where it's just my word against hers.

Or maybe I'm just cynical and this really is on of those too good to be true deals????

It could be a targeted campaign aimed at customers they think may have money to spend (which arguably you are, if you have 100meg internet). They give you the V box and the phone line for nowt, but once they're in your front room you are more likely to use them than if they're not - at which point VM makes more money off you. Think of them as being a bit like a pair of tiny electronic trojan horses.

If you were sceptical then they're not frr. they will bill you for them after you've had them. and then you have to go through all that thing about someone lied to you and they'll say they weren't authorised to give you them for free. and there's nothing on the system and there's nothing I can do for you.

then you can come on here and tell us all about it.

Re: An offer too good to be true?

Virgin have done this a few times for me. I used to have two phone lines and 20mb broadband. Then I called them to add a third phone line, and the lady said "you can have an upgrade to 50mb, the third phone line, and the basic TV package, and pay £2 per month less. And there would be no other charges". As you can imagine it didn't take long to make up my mind.

Then a couple of times since then they have offered me upgrades on my TV package, and each time end up paying less.

But as Chris says, if you have the basic TV package, there is a good chance you might want to upgrade. And if you have a telephone, then you will most likely use it.

That never happened to me. Each time I have received what they promised.
