Direct Debit - 30 day setup?

A bit of a story here so please hang in there...

I rang billing to change the direct debit from my dads bank account, who passed away recently, to my bank account. I was told I couldn't setup a DD until the "Transfer of Responsibility" had gone through and I'd received my first bill, which was on 28th July and 9th August respectively.

So I rang up today to setup a new DD for payment on the 28th of each month and got told it would take 30 days to action and therefore I would have to pay the first bill not by DD. So I paid by Credit Card there and then.

But when I checked MyVirginMedia tonight the new DD was setup.

Is this normal practice or was someone pulling a fast one to get me to pay early?

call VM tomorrow day time and speak to someone in billing/customer service UK.

Its 14 days to setup a DD. No idea where they got the 30 days from

It's too late now - I've paid. My only issue is whether I should have had to pay the first bill by credit card rather than had it taken from the first Direct Debit. I was also flexible on what day of the month it was taken out. Anyhow, no worries, it's not a big issue, i'll move on. Thanks for your inputs.

your welcome, I'd give them a call anyway just to make sure every things set up correctly, a double check wont hurt and wont take too long. Again contact them during the day
