I woud like to change my direct debit to another bank account. Is that a problem or will Virgin Media charge me for this service

No they should not charge you but you will have to give them your new bank details quite quickly so that they can get it ready for your next bill.

I did this last year so just a tip. If you can keep the old account topped up with enough funds to pay the DD it may come in handy if VM still take the DD from your old account even after they have the details of the new one as they did with me.
