Broadband pricing
As a long standing customer of Virgin Media (ex NTL), I am on size M broadband, speed 10Mb which costs £21.50 per month. Looking at the Virgin Media website, new customers get the size L package which is also 10Mb, but at a lower cost of £13.50 per month after the introductory discount has finished.
My question is, what is the difference between my 10Mb size M package and the new 10Mb size L package, apart from the obvious £8 price difference?
Why aren't existing customers put onto this package? Or do Virgin wait for customers to realise there is a similar cheaper option, forcing them to ring and query it?
I currently receive a loyalty discount. If I can change onto the cheaper package am I likely to lose this, and would I be expected to be put onto a new 1 year contract.

Re: Broadband pricing
You are comparing the full, non-discounted price for BB M of £21.50 with the discounted price for BB L of £13.50!

The website states that a new customer will get a £5 discount for the first 3 months, then after that will pay £13.50 per month.
Am I missing something?

Yes you are completely missing the point. You are comparing a non-discounted price with a discounted price as I stated earlier.
What does the detail of your bill say, including all discount lines?
The £13.50 BB L bill will say the following and let's remember that you have to have phone to get the BB L price of £13.50:
BB L £26
Phone M £12.99
discount -£12.50
Total £26.49
You have to compare BB L £26 with your BB M £21.50, not with the discounted £13.50 price (£26-£12.50=£13.50)

..then your comparative price for your BB M is £3.50, pretty good when compared to £13.50 for BB L.
To explain, the total discount is distributed between TV XL and BB. Always £1.50 off TV XL, bringing it's price to the quoted £24.50. This leaves £18 of your discount for BB M, giving the £3.50 price.

Re: Broadband pricing
OK ... I get what you are saying. But I was getting the £19.50 discount before the new size L version of 10Mb broadband was introduced, and i only got that because I rang retentions a few years back. The discount was based on queries I had relating to my TV package.
Therefore there still seems to be 2 prices for 10Mb broadband.... one for older customers, who would be paying the full £21.50 if they havent previously rung retentions, and a cheaper version that newer customer go onto after their introductory discount expires.
I do appreciate your response .... but something still niggles me about it lol.

You still aren't quite getting it
Virgin have always incuded a discount in their broadband pricing (as it did ntl before them, but Telewest generally didn't). What that discount is varies depending on what Broaband service you have and when you took it out

Re: Broadband pricing
I am also having problems understanding my broadband pricing.
I took out 50mbit when it first came out, which ok fine was £45 at the time... but I am still being charged £45 a month, despite the website now listing the price as being £25 a month now... tried to switch my package from VIP with separate 50mbit to VIP50, but was told I was automatically switched so surely when the package was switched I should of started recieving the current price at the time of the changeover.
100mbit is only £35 a month, so why am I being overcharged?

Re: Broadband pricing
You aren't
The prices quoted on the website include any appropriate discount
50Mbit still shows on the bill as £45 a month
So, for example, the current quoted price of £25 will be £45 BB XXL minus £20 discount

Re: Broadband pricing
in my mind Virgin should be taken to task over their very confusing pricing that ends up on peoples bills in which most customers cannot understand.

Re: Broadband pricing
maybe, but they should not advertise 1 price on their website... then bill a customer for another.
how is it correct that on their website they say 50mbit is £25
but on peoples bills £45
ok, so you say they remove a discount from that £45 which is how they get it down to £25... BUT then £25 should not be the advertised price, £45 should be... then whatever discounts you get are a bonus on top of the advertised price.
