Re: Can i cancell virgin Contract
Yes you can cancel your contract within the 12 months contract without penalty due to a price rise However it MUST be done within 30 days of you becoming aware of the price rise (or 30 days after your first increased bill which ever is first).
However you can only cancel the particular services that have received a rise (example if you have phone, bb and tv. TV and BB have received a price rise but not the phone then you can cancel those 2 but must keep the phone (though if your on a package discount then doing this will effectively then increase your phone rental and so you may then have the ability to cancel the phone line too).
for your reference the sections of VM's T&C's that allow this......

You must pay the charges for the services as set out in Virgin Media Ltd's and/or Virgin Media Entertainment's price guides or as otherwise notified to you, together with any applicable value added tax or other applicable taxes. We and/or Virgin Media Entertainment can change the charges as set out in paragraph H3, but if we do so, this may entitle you to end these agreements. You can read more about this in paragraph J5. All payments by you should be made to Virgin Media Payments, which will provide you with all necessary payment handling services for both Virgin Media Ltd and Virgin Media Entertainment. Virgin Media Payments agrees to collect and process all payments made by you to it promptly and ensure that they are applied in settlement of the charges to which they relate. Virgin Media Payments may charge you a separate service fee for collecting and processing such payments as provided in paragraph F4(c) below.

and J5
Quote:
a. Virgin Media Ltd, Virgin Media Entertainment and/or Virgin Media Payments increase their respective charges under these agreements;
b. Virgin Media Ltd and/or Virgin Media Entertainment make significant changes to the services so the services you are entitled to receive in return for the charges you pay are significantly altered or reduced; or
c. Virgin Media Ltd, Virgin Media Entertainment and/or Virgin Media Payments make significant changes to the terms and conditions of these agreements (including the other legal stuff).
You may cancel those services affected without penalty by giving Virgin Media Ltd and/or Virgin Media Entertainment (as applicable) at least 30 days' notice in writing. Such notice must be given within 30 days of the increase in charges or changes to the services or this agreement being notified to you. If you were not notified of these changes in advance, you must give notice of cancellation of the services affected to Virgin Media Ltd and/or Virgin Media Entertainment (as applicable) within 30 days of receipt of your first bill following such increase in charges. If you do not give notice of cancellation within the specified period, you will be deemed to have accepted the increase in charges and/or the changes to the services and these agreements. You will no longer be able to cancel your services under this paragraph. If you cancel any services in these circumstances, the increased charges will not apply to those services during the 30-day notice period and paragraph J2 will not apply if you cancel before the end of the minimum period.

Without knowing the full details you cannot advise them of a possible right to disconnect as you are not a mind reader, because for all you know they may have only recently took out the contract.

Which is of cause the reason i gave him the link to the FULL t's and c's so he can check if there are any exclusions for his particular circumstances. Guess i should have added a disclaimer to my post but im sure CS/retentions would point out any particular special circumstances then apply to him, with he can then double check using the link provided.
However unlike the last time we discussed this issues, were not talking about the "Gray area" of VAT increase (which btw i successfully managed to use to get out of a contract (not VM)) but the regular April price increase. In which case with generally speaking you will have 30 days from being notified of an increase in which to decline the rise (if hes say 60 days into a contract and at time of signing he was told of the upcoming rise then he would be beyond the 30day notice but if he wasn't then he would very likely be able to use this way out). VERY few exceptions apply to this (such as half price intro offer for 6 months etc).

It will still depend on when he took the contract out.

How about asking VM for a complete breakdown of your service charges and you payment bill, also if your not paying by direct Debit the breakdown of the DD charges, If they cant provide that, then they have broken the contract NOT you... now try it and see what happens, nothing to loose.
good luck

That is on an average bill unless you are getting something different to everyone else.

Re: Can i cancel virgin Contract
Masque, sorry to contradict your findings, but if you ask any VM persons on the other side of the phone for a breakdown of pricing , rebates, cost of non DD of your bill ( If you chose to pay by other means), they will tell you they cannot, as no one seems to know how it works, I have asked about a dozen times and got a sommelier responce from most of them, and on the last ocation they put the phone down on me.
For example I just got the offer of 30mb BB for £18.50... No where do it state that this offer only comes into effect AFTER the discount you get on your monthly bill, Your bill will shows a price of £35.00 for BB....
I expected the price of the BB to be £18.50 as stated in the advert, and told by the person who sign me up for the offer, and not £18.50 AFTER the discount........
Can you tell me how the breakdown works out........

Re: Can i cancel virgin Contract
It tells me the breakdown in my bill as it does with everyone elses bill, the is no requirement to go into the finite detail of any bill as otherwise the average bill would be of a ridiculous size.
The same goes for any utility bill you get it broken down as far as is legally required and that is it otherwise we would have people using loopholes every month which in reality is never going to happen.

Re: Can i cancel virgin Contract
tridens sorry if it seems I have hijack your post.. my apologies
Fair comment Masque, But it still remain the fact that if I wonted to see how the breakdown of my personnel account with VM, then surely I have the right to ask for such information, and the company has a right to provide it.
As for people who as you say uses this as a loophole then the company should have taken this into account when they went into business supplying a commodity for consumers.
Everyone at one time or another has quire a bill because of the information you have in front of them douse not tally with what they think they should have been charged.
Would it come down to, It must be right because the bill say so, and ignore it.

As I said it is all normally in your bill for you to see and how much further would or could you have it broken down.

Re: Can i cancel virgin Contract
So Masque do I have the right to ask for a full breakdown of my bill... yes or no.
Ie, how do VM work the discount and the non DD charges , it should be stated somewhere in our contracts or the very fine print of the pricing plans they use.

Why don't you detail your bill here and someone will explain for you and you can advise what information you think is missing?

Well here is the section about paying your bill and the is nothing along the lines that you state in there, if the is do please point it out.
Because if it existed everyone would be refusing to pay any bills unless all bills were printed in just such a way, your idea may work in your head but not in reality.
