Just downgraded from VIP......

....by removing sky sports & movies, talk internation and talk mobile and was quoted a monthly price of £60.84. I'm happy with this however what i'm not happy with is that when I have logged into 'My virgin media' to lok at my unbilled usage it shows one off charges of £75 labeled V+HDSTB and £0 B NO SEND.

I was not told of this charge while on the phone, is this correct or should I get back in touch with them tomorrow?

Re: Just downgraded from VIP......

I guess you should have been told.

With VIP, you do not pay upfront HD activation charges for the boxes, only the £40 install charge.

When you 'downgrade' from VIP, these charges (IMHO quite rightly) become chargeable.

You could certainly make the case that you were not told about this charge or that new customers only pay £49.95 for HD activation of a V+.

Re: Just downgraded from VIP......

If the STB was already activated for HD when you had VIP, why does it need to be reactivated for HD becasue you've come off that package That would seem a rip off to me

I agree, if it's activated already it should remain activated

Re: Just downgraded from VIP......

Just phoned them back, spoke to a different advisor who checked through the details and said that because I had came off vip it's the charge for the box, however, because i'd been on vip for so long the charge should have been credited back. He then went away to speak to his manager and a few minutes later he said it was all sorted and I was now £11 in credit.

Re: Just downgraded from VIP......

I'm also looking at my outgoings and seriously considering coming off VIP.

I'd be happy with 30Mb broadband, a single V+ box with sports. Do I have to have their phone service, not like I ever use it anyway.

It's because of the V+ and VIP pricing structure.

When VIP was put together the V+ box had a low (or no) install fee and then a £10 (or £15 if on M/L) monthly fee. So that's how the VIP bundle works

When the V+ pricing was changed to be a higher upfront fee and a lower monthly price, VIP wasn't changed so that it would a sales advantage for the lower fee for V+ (as initally V+ was £150 install on the new pricing)

So the older pricing is included within VIP service discounts, but then isn't in any other bundle. So if you come off VIP you either end up paying £10 a month as per the older pricing or have to pay a one off 'conversion fee' to move across to the newer pricing

Most of the time the fee does seem to get waived
