Looking at 20>30MB upgrade..currenty being billed or 20MB @ £37/month?

Having read up a bit about the 30mb upgrade offer for £30 I decided to look at my bill and see if there was anything I could do to keep my broadband, but reduce my phone and tv costs.

My current Bill is:

Total service charges
£48.24

Refunds and adjustments
£-4.00

Main services
£52.24

Telephone Line Rental £12.24
Talk Unlimited £8.00
Additional Loyalty Discount £-3.00
Triple Combo Loyalty Discount £-27.00
Fully Itemised Billing £0.00
T V Size: X L l £25.00
V+ HD Box £0.00
Broadband XL(20) £37.00

Hang on I thought....
£37 FOR 20mb broadband, when the website says I can get 30MB for £18.50pm as long as I have a VM phone line?

So phoned VM, where the person said that no matter what they did I would NOT be able to get a package deal as good as the one i was on...with £34 discount each month.

i asked about why I am I being billed £37 for 20MB yet 30MB is £18.50?

She said it wasnt even worth looking into costing it out, as the max discount VM gives out on re-negotiated packages was £22..nowhere NEAR what i was currently getting.

She advised that if I wanted 30MB broadband, I the best value for money I could get was to pay teh £30 one off cost and get teh 30MB upgrade, and continue paying what I was paying.

What do you guys think..reasonable advice, or SHOULD I be getting at least a better offer than what im paying now?

**I STILL dont understand why Im being charged £37 for 20MB, she said something about the £18.50 per month being charged for 30MB with a VM phone line was with an £18 discount applied!
And Im getting over £30 so I would be losing out!

As far as I can see, the £18.50 pm charge for 30MB BB is just that...with no hidden "discounts applied.
Something didnt ring true about that, hence the question here.
I may be on a great deal just now, and if so Im grateful and thats fine.
Im just looking for some opinions I guess?

Thanks for any replies.

Hi, the price for your broadband that you've quoted is the price before your discounts are applied. I would assume that about 3/5th of your total £30 in discounts would be applied to your broadband price, bringing it down to the regular price.
I would hope Ben Mcr would be able to confirm this

You could look at your bill as though the Broadband was costing you:

£37 - £30 in discounts = £7, plus phone and TV...

Do you really expect him to notice the discount even though he posted it.

Re: Looking at 20>30MB upgrade..currenty being billed or 20MB @ £37/month?

No no he see's the discount...

As I said I may be on a great deal ATM and if so I'm grateful...I'm not one of those "world owes me a living" kinda guys..
Was just looking for some opinions on my package.

Looking at it from the view of BB for £7 puts it in perspective a bit.
£30 one off payment to up it to 30mb seems too good an oppertunity to pass up.

*unless I threaten to go to Sky unless I get my 30mb broadband for £7 AND get my xl tv and phone for the same...

Seems reasonable I guess?

Naa, got a sense of perspective about it now, it was just when I saw £18.50 for 30mb it rung an alarm bell.

One question though...
Upping to 30mb shouldn't affect my current discounts would it?
A quick read through the forum indicated some people had problems with this?

Thanks chaps.

Re: Looking at 20>30MB upgrade..currenty being billed or 20MB @ £37/month?

That is a very good discount and one given at the time with the package of services sold and that is the issue - one goes with the other.. So enjoy it while you can since as soon as you change package, the multiple pack discount will be what ever it is today which may not be as favourable. It is just a case of whether you win or lose overall, the idscount is not fixed for life whatever you do with your services package.

I recently upgraded by BB from 10 to 20MB and lost a some discount, ended up paying £1.50 more overall per month, as I lost some discount but moved to a lower latest BB price.

You just have to see where you end up overall on price.

If you are already on 20MB and want to move up to 30MB then the monthly fee should be free (still £30 one-off activation fee I believe). However in my case as an example, my triple service retention package is for 20MB only so in my case if I want 30MB I WOULD lose some more discount and so pay more.

You could lose your retentions discount the only way to find out is to phone up and ask after 0800.

Smile Re: Looking at 20>30MB upgrade..currenty being billed or 20MB @ £37/month?

I applied for the 30MB upgrade online on Saturday. Received an email asking me to phone in to confirm info.
When I called I was told that the 30MB deal was available to all customers including those with discount codes applied to their account. That was from Retention Team.

Router coming Tuesday.

Ah well...best laid plans and all that.

Phoned CS today and expressed interest in the 30MB "free" upgrade offer?
Was told that I would need to pay the £30 fee AND an additional £6.70-odd each month.

Hardly a free upgrade is it?
Not impressed.

Double check your next bill guys....

...but as is stated on the website and as has been said before in this thread, you have to go onto standard pricing to get this 'free' upgrade. Your discount was excessive IMHO.

Good on Virgin Media if they are trying to standardise pricing so that everyone pays the same for the same bundle.

hey, relax there fella..

fair point...
not that VM is doing that out of the goodness of their hearts you understand..

As a 20 year+ loyal customer my discount wasn't THAT excessive eh?
But no need for 30mb, but would have been nice...so hey ho.

Dear Virgin Media

Will you stop misleading.

Whatever the pricing it say on the website should be the same pricing.

XL (30) £37.00 is 100% misleading pricing. Should be £28.50 instead (for broadband stand alone).

You have been a member long enough to know by now that this site has nothing whatsoever to do with Virginmedia so this post is rather pointless, so you would be better posting it on the community forum.
