Retention suggestions
Sorry about the thread title, but that was the best I could think of that'll explain what I'm after. My contract is due to end at the end of this month (August), & was wondering the best way to negotiate getting the best deal with Virgin in order to stay with them, if that makes sense. This is my current list of charges:
Main services (Provided by Virgin Media Ltd or Virgin Media Payments Ltd) £89.99
Description Date/period Amount
Telephone Line Rental 27 July - 26 August £11.99
Payment Handling Charge 27 July - 26 August £5.00
Talk Anywhere 800 27 July - 26 August £29.00
Triple Saving 27 July - 26 August £-13.00
Call Displ 27 July - 26 August £2.00
Fully Itemised Billing 27 July - 26 August £0.00
T V Size: X L 27 July - 26 August £24.50
1 Additional V Box 27 July - 26 August £15.00
V+ HD Box 27 July - 26 August £0.00
Add Set Box(es) Discount 27 July - 26 August £-9.50
Broadband Size: L 27 July - 26 August £25.00
Thanks in advance.

Re: Retention suggestions
Eh? That's the £5.50 additional box fee that is always payable
---------- Post added at 15:59 ---------- Previous post was at 15:57 ----------
The original poster is only £1 off the current price for services which isn't that bad going really!
The main things are to sign up for Direct Debit which would save £5 a month, and also check whether being on Talk Anywhere 800 is the best value e.g can it be reduced to 400 or 200 mins?

Re: Retention suggestions
Blimey, didn't realise what I had was a good deal. So, if I reduce the phone down to 400, that leaves us with 6hrs 40min to play with each month. Don't need to increase BB, as I don't download movies etc., so it's pointless increasing that. We have the full tv channels, barring premium channels, so no need for any more. Would we be worse off if we went onto a VIP package? Other than that, there's not much else I can think of.

Really you shouldn't be getting that - it's a hangover from the old billing system and should have been removed

Re: Retention suggestions
Ok, another suggestion. How about, having phone reduced to Talk Anywhere 400, from 800, & getting Sky Movies Collection package for free? Is that asking too much, or sound a good deal, providing Virgin agree to it?

That's asking too much! Your asking for a reduction in phone charges of £12 to fund a £19.50 Movies Collection.

I kind of doubt that as that would be quite a loss of revenue.

Re: Retention suggestions
Ok, so not much is available to me then, apart from reducing Talk Unlimited to 400. Wonderful!
---------- Post added at 21:48 ---------- Previous post was at 21:33 ----------
Ok, had a look on Sky, and come up with this:
Sky TV
------
Variety Pack £48.50 Monthly
Children's Pack
Knowledge Pack
Style & Culture Pack
Music Pack
News & Events Pack
Movies 1
Movies 2
Sports 1
Sports 2
------------------------------------------------------------
Sky boxes
---------
Sky+HD box FREE
HD Pack £10 Monthly
Additional Boxes
----------------
Standard Sky box FREE
Multiroom subscription £10 Monthly
Standard set-up FREE
------------------------------------------------------------
Sky Broadband & Talk
--------------------
Broadband Unlimited £7.50 Monthly
Talk Unlimited £5 Monthly
Sky Talk Line Rental £11 Monthly
Voicemail 1571 FREE

------------------------------------------------------------
Total
-----
Monthly total £92
One-off total £39
---------- Post added at 22:12 ---------- Previous post was at 21:48 ----------
And after a bit of editing, this is more or less the same as what we get on Virgin:
Sky TV
------
Variety Pack £35 Monthly
Children's Pack
Knowledge Pack
Style & Culture Pack
Music Pack
News & Events Pack
ESPN
------------------------------------------------------------
Sky boxes
----------
Sky+HD box FREE
HD Pack £10 Monthly
Additional Boxes
----------------
Standard Sky box FREE
Multiroom subscription £10 Monthly
Standard set-up FREE
------------------------------------------------------------
Sky Broadband & Talk
---------------------
Broadband Unlimited £7.50 Monthly
Talk Unlimited £5 Monthly
Sky Talk Line Rental £11 Monthly
Voicemail 1571 FREE
Withhold number FREE

Re: Retention suggestions
Actually it's not. You are on Talk Anywhere. There is no equivalent package on Sky.
The package you have selected on Sky is Talk Unlimited. Virgin's version of that is £7.95
So if you swapped to that on Virgin your bill would go down by £21.05

Re: Retention suggestions
Ah, ok. So I could reduce it to TA 400 like I said, that'll at least reduce it a little, as we have to have TA, as we call mobiles a lot of the time, & the TU doesn't cover mobiles, unless you have the TM add-on, but that only saves 33% on mobile calls. Apart from that, I can't see anything else that can be done.
