Moving house
Hi.
I subscribed to Virgin just over 5 months ago, but I am due to move house in 10 days time.
Unfortunately Virgin cannot be installed in my next house, but I have been told that I still need to pay £10 for each service that I have per month.
I have 3 services at the moment and pay £35 per month.
I am still liable to pay £30 per month even though I am not receiving a service from Virgin.
This seems very unjust to me and would like to know what I can do to not have to pay for these unusable services.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Many thanks.

Virgin Media should be able to provide some services at every address in the UK
So if the OP were to take Virgin National ADSL services they would not have to pay the cable Early Disconnection Fee

very good point, what is the least possible he would have to pay i.e. bare minimum ADSL?
I assume it would be less than £30?

Re: Moving house
Hi guys.
I cannot believe the reply from Scrubbs, do you work for Virgin or something.
Yes it is my fault that I have chosen to move, but as BenMcr and Russ stated it's not my fault they cannot provide me with a service.
It's pretty pathetic really that a big company cannot have an alternative facility for situations such as these.
I think it's a complete rip-off.
Thanks.

Re: Moving house
obviously I don't work for virgin or I wouldn't have to ask Ben the cheapest way for YOU to still get broadband.
but I'm sure you will work it out without my help.

Re: Moving house
I thing its fair that if you enter a contract with VM to supply a service for 12 months then you should keep to it.
But if you move and VM are not able to supply the service at that address who is at fault, do we only move to another address just because VM is there and how do we know. VM can stop our service any time so why can't we when some thing like this turns up. To be honest I am moving soon but wants to get the L phone package but I will not till I have moved for that very reason.

This whole 'Virgin cannot supply a service' is nonsense
As I've already said - Virgin Media can provide broadband and phones services everywhere
They either do it by cable or ADSL. It is your choice if you don't choose to continue with a service from VM. So if you don't then you have to pay any Early Disconnection Fess as per the terms you agreed to when you took out the services

Re: Moving house
Actually not everywhere, there are still some very remote places where even BT has very limited connections too and doesn;t offer ADSL services
But yes 99.99% of UK houses are capable of even basic ADSL via a phone line
Begs the question where is the OP moving to?

Re: Moving house
So what would be the situation if say I was using 50meg broadband and the full TV package but moved to an area where after having it installed and testing it, VM's ADSL could only average around 2meg, wouldn't the vast difference in provided service be good enough reason to end the contract?

Re: Moving house
If VM can only offer 2Mb then every other DSL service would probably offer the same speed, so is the OP expecting/wanting an internet service at all at the far end?? The fact that there is a connection there is more relevant than the speed available..
Question @ Ben, what's the current limit on the cancellation fee?? Just that the OP hasn't mentioned that he's been informed that there is one

The terms you agree to when you take out cable services apply to the address you take them out at. There is never any guarantee of forward transfer

You're missing the point. Say for example the OP needed 50meg for a specific purpose, and a service of 2meg was completely unworkable for his needs, surely that would be grounds for cancelling the VM contract? The fact that nobody could provide him with the speed he requires would be secondary surely?
