£37 for BB £11 for PHone - Is This Right?

Hello.
For the past 6 months or so, I have been with NTL/VM for Broadband, 20mb, and about 10 years on a NTL phoneline.
I was not happy paying £37 a month, because I was only getting 10mb speeds (and still am!), but I still paid it.

Today I noticed that new customers pay £20 a month for 20mb broadband.

Why the hell am I paying almost double for the same service?!

Is there any way to get it for the cheaper price?

I am really angry that I am a loyal customer, and I have to pay waaay more for the same thing - I could understand if it was a short-term offer, but it seems these prices are forever (or at least until they change their pricing plan).

I really need help here!

Because you are subsidising this deplorable companies marketing strategies and retention deals.

They have such a poor reputatation it's the only way they can sell their services.

Even £20 for 20Mb isn't such a bargain and especially so when theres a good chance it might be broke.

Re: £37 for BB £11 for PHone - Is This Right?

what number did you call, and who did you go through to. I have just called 150 and gone through to speak to them about anything else (option 5) and was told that's for new customers only and if I wanted to save money I could drop sports and movies off my package, which I don't really want to do.

Some advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: £37 for BB £11 for PHone - Is This Right?

Well, I am a wimp when it comes to talking to peope, so I didn't shout at them or complain.

I phoned 150, and went through to billing (I believe 1, then 4), and spoke to a bloke. I didn't catch his name, because he had a thick accent (Maybe Glaswegian, I don't really know. British, at least ).

I explained that I was paying £37 a month for BB, and that new customers pay £20 a month. I asked him if he could sort me out at all.
He had a look at my account, and then had a word with his manager, and said that because I didn't have any discount at all, he would sort me out with that Ultimate Double package.

He put me onto Unlimited talk time on the phone (I was on a 4p plan before), and basically saved me £18.50 a month

I think the best thing is to be polite, ask them nicely what they can do, and if they are either being stubborn or say they cannot do anything, say goodbye, wait 5 minutes, and try again.
I think a lot of the time they can do something, but either their boss is being a git or they are too bone idle to press a few buttons to sort you out. It's just a case of finding the one who takes the time to help

Re: £37 for BB £11 for PHone - Is This Right?

Thanks for that called twice first time was told nothing they could do, 2nd time was excellent. I have gone from paying £99 for XL TV with Sports and Movies, 20Mb Broadband, free weekend calls, and a V+ box to XL TV with Sports and Movies, 20Mb Broadband, free land line calls 24 hours and cheaper mobile and international, a V+ box and an additional box now only paying £85.
Brilliant, they upgraded me to the VIP pack and that made it cheaper by £14 a month, how does that work?
Definatley not going to argue.
Cheers guys

Re: £37 for BB £11 for PHone - Is This Right?

I'm still paying near £50 for basic phone and XL broadband and saw the website to see that new customers are offered a discount from what would normally cost them £31 per month !

What number do I call to query this ?

Thankyou

Just thought I'd ring them and here is what they gave me...

XL BB + Unlimited free calls (I assume XL phone) + Free TV for £38.95

Is that any good ?
