Change of Billing Name

Hi,

I live in a shared house, there was one person here when I moved in and he had recently signed up to Virgin Media with a 12 month contract.

He has left the house, it was a bit of a rushed leave. I rang up virgin media to change the billing name over to me - the guy in the call centre was helpful enough but i'm confused about a few things:

1. I asked if the contract would still expire in 3 months - he told me it would start a whole NEW contract which I get a tad angry about, he put me on hold then came back and said the contract would not restart and it would still expire in 3 months. Can anyone confirm this is the case because I will NOT be happy (im leaving in 5 months!)

2. It costs £25 to do this... TWENTY FIVE POUNDS! To change the name on the account?

3. They are sending a form to me which we both have to sign and return, the problem is he has already left! What am I supposed to do about that...?

Do anyone know how long this whole thing takes to go through?

Thanks for your help,
iainr.

Re: Change of Billing Name

Its £20 and you can fill in the form without the account holder being there

It IS a new 12 months contract

Thanks for your quick reply,

If it starts a new 12 month contract then what the heck am I supposed to do.

Im seriously p*ssed off, why the hell did the guy lie to me? to stop me moaning at him?

Does the 12 month contract only start when I actualy complete the form. There is no way I can deal with a new 12 month contract... I've seriously got no idea what to do =( The whole idea of the name change was to avoid starting a new 12 month contract...

Re: Change of Billing Name

Yup, no action will be taken till you return the forms so the old contract will apply

Only option is to get the existing account holder to add you as a named 3rd party. this gives you the right to change or cancel services without starting a new contract

Virgin would, however, go after the current account holder if there was any unpaid amount/unreturned equipment etc

I don't think he will agree to that... looks like im stuck with a new 12 month contract. Don't know what I will do in 5 months when I leave the house.

Re: Change of Billing Name

You will have to have been in the house over 6 months for the transfer to be approved

Re: Change of Billing Name

I've lived in the house for 7 months, my other housemate has been here 9 months.

But I only have 5 months left in the house (though i've been reading the contract and it says something about if you are a tenant you have to have at least 12 months contract remaining on your leese which I dont!) Grrrrr.
