Question Not being charged for line rental

I went to my parents house last weekend and discovered they are not being charged for telephone,tv & broadband line rental!

they are only charged for the phone calls they make....and nothing more. previously they were NTL customers who cancelled their package however the connections remained active?! this was around 9-12 months ago.

Now they are billed by virgin media however only for the phone calls they make. i am rather concerned that virgin media may charged them for the line rental which they could backdate 12 months ago?

would they be liable for the charges even if they cancelled with NTL but used the active connections( phone line, broadband)?

please shed some light onto this
many thanks

Adam

Re: Not being charged for line rental

They dont backdate the charges if its an error on their behalf, but could start charging for line rental from when the error is discovered, so would have the full £11 line rental on one bill plus a pro rata amount of less than £11.

Also because they have been using the phone it is unlikely that they would credit this line rental charge back, and would have to give another 30days notice if they wanted to cancel it.

Re: Not being charged for line rental

they have not paid the phone line rental, only the charges for the actual phone calls, which for them is around £3 a month!

so since virgin media have made an error by not charging line rental for telephone/television and broadband they will not have to pay the backdated charges for these? i believe it would be around £30 a month?

Re: Not being charged for line rental

no they wont back-date it, didnt know the bb and tv was working too, so when it does get corrected the first bill could be as high as £60 to take into account the month ahead and pro rata.

With all the billing migrations ongoing at present, I would imagine this will get picked up pretty soon!
