Someone else's bill

Just had a bill from virgin media sent to my address but in someone else's name. The statement is dated 20 July 2007, but I have lived here since December 2006, and it says payment is due immediately. Here is a rundown of it.

Previous Balance: £97.40
Payments Received: £83.43CR
Balance Brought Forward: £13.97
Current Month Charges: £3.85
Amount Due: £17.82

So it appears to me some form of payment is being made. The problem is I don't have a landline so I can't call their 150 number and I've been on the web site and can't find a way to contact them about it.
What should I do now, just ignore it, are can I get in touch with them some other way?

Re: Someone else's bill

You shouldn't have opened it. It's illegal unless you needed to do it to find out who to return it to - even then it's best to let Royal Mail do it.

The best policy when you get post for other people and it's addressed to your property is to write either:

"Not known at this address" or

"No longer at this address"

Write whichever is appropriate and stick it back in the post box. It'll go back to the sender and if it's a company they'll block any more out going mail to you for that person and chase them another way.

You would think wouldn't you!

I've had mail for the previous owners constantly for the past 5 years now and started sending everything back. Didn't help. Kept getting post from the same companies.

I just bin it all now but will start charging the Royal Mail and the Companies for a disposal service when the council start charging me for bin collections.
