Unhappy Have to pay for phone now??????

As an NTL customer, I had DTV, BB, and (fixed) phone, the phone line rental was free. Just got my first VM bill and they have charged me for phone line rental (£11.00)
Is this right, I have to pay for line rental now?

Must admit in the run-up to VM taking over I have had loads of junk/e-mail from Virgin but I havn't read most of it! I may have missed something

TIA, Steve

Re: Have to pay for phone now??????

The phone is normally part of the TV price, my 20th Feb 2007 bill shows:

3p plan £00.00
Broadband Size: L £25.00
TV Size: L And Telephone £22.50

Re: Have to pay for phone now??????

Your not having to pay anymore for the line rental. Instead of the TV and Telephone being bundle up together, its been broken apart but your still paying the same amount.

funny how price increases are announced with immediate effect, while price falls/upgrades are announced MONTHS in advance... that's VM for u!

You have always been paying £11 for line rental it was just included with the TV package before. They have separated the individual parts out to make it easier to understand.

Yes, but that was usually due to Sky putting up their prices so it should not happen this year!

What if I don't want the fixed line and only had it 'cos it was free. Does this mean I can chuck it and get £11 back, or will I be charged more for the basics?

Re: Have to pay for phone now??????

I've looked all over the Virgin Media site and it sems that I can't have TV at the prices they quote without a phone as well.
Size: XL
Over 125 channels*
Cost:
£20.50 a month when taken with Virgin Phone
is what it quotes. I can't see where it states I can wave bye bye to the landline, without the TV package price increasing.
This is why I got what is now called XL for TV, as the cost of adding the movie channels to the basic package was dearer than adding them to this one.
I have a feeling that the TV XL pack and movies will suddenly burgeon in price.

Re: Have to pay for phone now??????

I noticed the £11 line rental had been split on my bill, and inquired why. I was told it is a requirement by OF COM so that they have an amount to compensate you if they do not provide the service.

I think I recall that TV without the phone you can have a £6.50 rebate (that's from the price list immediately prior to the launch of Virgin Media). It may have changed now. But it might be possible for you to have a package e.g two for £20 (broadband and television) and pay the difference between the L package and XL.

In anycase, the television was always only with telephone pre-Virgin Media days.
