Price changes?
Allegedly coming in June from: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/article/ds20314.html
Now if this is true and the base pack will be more than the equivalent Sky offering + line rental I can see a whole lot of people ditching the TV completely and either freeviewing or getting a dish.

Re: Price changes?
But it will still be cheaper than Sky plus BT. Sky base pack is £13.50 and BT already charge £10.50 per month. Thus, that would be £24 per month. If NTL base pack goes up £2 it will still only be £21.50 per month.
Not that I am in favour of the price rises, mind, and I really hope that the £1 rise in line rental from £9.50 to £10.50 is actually a move from 321 to the 5p tariff.

Judging by the complete lashing NTL has recieved in the Sky Vs NTL DTV thread, you'd think this would be the opposite of what they would want to do.

Re: Price changes?
Hmmm I must remember not to do mental arithmetic when I haven't woken up properly.
Still if they keep the 3Meg at the price it is at I can see people going for a LLU company (assuming there will be one in their area) for the rental and internet.

Sky haven't (to the best of my knowledge) changed their prices so why increase them this time?
Aside of course to fund the redundancies and directors bonuses.

Again, whilst I'm against unneccessary price rises, ntl do not base their policy decisions on the views of a couple of hundred people on a website.
Senior management don't even read such sites. They are not representative of the customer base as a whole.

I hope the £1 phone line rental increase is just a mirror of BT, i.e. it is not really an "increase" but a forced migration from the basic 321 tariff (currently £9.50) to the 5p tariff (currently £10.50 matching BT's 5.5p BT Together).
The family pack (and all others except base pack) are only going up by £1 so this would be putting prices up because BT did rather than Sky, this time!

No it won't.
If companies made major policy decisions based on the views of a few hundred people on a minority interest website then they'd pretty soon go bust.
You need to be aware that companies like ntl, Sky, BT etc have MILLIONS of customers to cater for, not just the couple of hundred on a website.
If every single member of sites like CableForum and DigitalSpy cancelled their services with whichever company they are with, then the companies concerned would barely notice.
That's always the problem with 'protest' websites, they are simply not big enough to make any sort of difference.

Fantastic £10.50 a month for a line I don't use and a customer service that takes 3 days to supply call divert functionality to the line (inclusive on the BT qequivilant package).

If I may ask, why don't you use the line?

Re: Price changes?
Is this a premature April Fools Story?
I refuse to get excited about this until I see an official announcement from NTL.

Re: Price changes?
I can confirm this story is true.
We have had the brief today with the new prices. All are correct apart from talk unlimited which will only reduce to £16.50.
The new line rental (10.50) is not the direct competitior to the 5.5p talk plan and will instead still follow the structure of the 3-2-1 tarrif but offer local free calls to any landline (bt or ntl) number at weekend only.
all tv packs go up £1 apart from the base which goes up £2.
Broadband prices are frozen and dial up goes up £1 to £13.50.
