At present I have an ntl phone line and 300k broadband cable modem. I only pay line rental to ntl as I have a call router. I have now found that I can get even cheaper calls but I need to have a BT line. BT say that they will re-connect me free and keep my number. Can I still have the broadband service with ntl and the line with BT, or will they stop my broadband which I want to keep. Sorry it sounds confusing but it's the only way I can explain it. Thanks.

Re: Phone advice please
You can have broadband on its own if you like. If you decide to go to BT for the phone they will take care of everything including cancelling the NTL line.

Ian, I've decided to go ahead with the switch back to BT. I have noted your answer above, but just in case ntl play silly bu****s on this one, do you work for ntl and can I quote you if I get a problem?
Like ian@huth said you don’t need to contact NTL. BT will do the lot providing you have been with NTL for over 12 months for your contact to end.
Can you let us know what company you are thinking of going with for your phone calls as I am thinking about getting two BT lines and go with Toucan, but I just need to find out if they charge x 2 for two phone lines or like NTL I pay one payment of £15.99 for the 24/7 for both lines.
They offer free calls to all UK numbers 01 and 02 for a charge of £9.99 per month and you don’t have to hang-up after 59min
Plus they have gone the way of blocking all 09-premium rate numbers, but you can call customer services and have it lifted.
The non-geographic calls are a minefield and are charged at BT rates. You can view via the web site or this pdf file link
Thanks, I am going to get my calls through 18866.com. 2p connection charge and all calls to UK landlines are free. I don't make many calls and I don't ring mobiles so I think this will be the best one for me. I will however be keeping my ntl broadband connection.

That's a bit naughty...they've changed the connection fee from 1p to 2p
