jedi knights academy bandwidth usage
Hello,
Does anyone know how much bandwidth each multiplayer person uses? Im looking into getting a dedicated server for my friend but we need to know the bandwidth usage first.
Someone said 3KB/s per person, but that seems a bit high.
Thanks.

You may well be better off asking this question on a dedicated JKA forum.....

Re: jedi knights academy bandwidth usage
The bandwidth will constantly fluctuate depending on the activity of the server. The more activity on screen, the more information your client needs to have transferred.
Each player will have different bandwidth requirements to the next.
If you have performance issues, just set the "sv_maxrate" a bit lower than default which will restrict the amount used by the players on high bandwidth connections.

High? Seems a bit low to me, imagine yourself trying to game on a 3kb connection.

Yet another reason to get a dedicated Server Abyss
http://www.4u-servers.co.uk/index.ph...&product_id=18 If youd be interested in a hosted server. And yes, these games do take a helluva lot of bandwidth.

You didnt read it properly, I said 3KB/s per person, not the connection.
I am getting a dedicated server but I need to know how much it uses so I can work out the bandwidth I need. I already know where Im getting one from, its just a case of working out the bandwidth costs.
Also, this server will be used for web hosting as well and is fully self managed. I hate not having full control
EDIT: Server specs Im getting will be:
AMD 64 3000+
1GB RAM
2x 80GB HD's
Win 2k3
10Mbps uplink
1TB bandwidth
for £56 a month.
Yes, 1TB is a lot but you need to remember I want to host a lot of websites as well. I intend to make a profit from this. I already have most things worked out.

Re: jedi knights academy bandwidth usage
Bifta is talking per person, he was describing the 3kb connection from the client side.

Abyss, what hosting company are you looking at for that, it seems reasonable.

I get pings of 40-50ms to their boxs. I tried it on a server that my friend has with them. So its not all that bad.
Also, game servers don't use that much resources once they are running so its perfectly OK to run a game server with the hosting. Ive done that on my own server at home before. I just run out of bandwidth after 6 players.

Re: jedi knights academy bandwidth usage
Fair enough
Do you have an IP to test, if the pings are that low, it might be an ideal source for our gaming servers, especially at those prices!
