Gameshop might still buy the company or what remains of it, I heard they might be interested in their international operations and even the the whole company, they even launched a UK website, if not, then they will be the biggest retail shutdown since Woolworths

If GAME goes, will HMV be next?

re: GAME (UK) rescued by OpCapita

I think the question is not what GAME will become but is the brand name valuable? I would suggest it is and therefore it will continue to exist but be effectively a different business. The actual company is worthless it seems.

I think that if GameShop buyes the company, then they will replace the GAME brand with their own, if not then it will become an online only business

re: GAME (UK) rescued by OpCapita

They have already closed some of the stores in the last 3 hours.

List here
http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/store...station/093365

Also This
Quote:
Administrator PwC has today closed the doors on 277 of The GAME Group’s 609 UK and Ireland stores, MCV understands.
The result is that by the end of the day around 2,104 GAME employees will have lost their jobs - 40 per cent of its UK workforce.
15 of these jobs have been lost from its Basingstoke head office with the rest coming from its stores.
Am shocked that its all happened so fast

Went into town earlier and saw one of the Nottingham stores was closed. Surprised it happened so quickly.

Well it's there own fault because I purchased a ps vita 3G, 8 gb card and a game for only £274 same deal on game was £20 dearer for bundle and it a 4gb not 8gb card. I was in yesterday and still 36 per cent dearer than amazon

re: GAME (UK) rescued by OpCapita

Quite suprised the store in my area has not closed, hearing of hundreds of other stores closing in just the last few hours.

Also by the way, if anyone is interested, Shopto.net are offering new customers only £3 off their next purchase for sending in your GAME loyalty card

re: GAME (UK) rescued by OpCapita

A sad day for gaming.

Looking at the list I found earlier (will see if I find the link again), my nearest stores (Croydon and Bromley) have both closed.

While I have an xbox 360 and love it, I am also a fairly avid PC gamer. While I have no trouble buying xbox games over the counter, Game was the only retailer in my area that even made a half hearted attempt to sell PC games.

I can buy them from Steam, Origin or any of a number of download services, but that still leaves me at the mercy of the download services. If I have a CD/DVD and don't have any activation issues, I can install the game whenever I want or need. I won't lose it if the place I downloaded it from closes, or removes it from sale (while Steam and Origin are both financially successful, so was Game a few years ago).

The same can't be said of any download service.

re: GAME (UK) rescued by OpCapita

It is a sad day for me as well. GAME has always been my first port of call for gaming, if they didn't have it or it was too expensive eBay or Play was used.

Looking at the list of closed stores, it looks like only one GAME was shut down, hopefully the decent one was left open. Gamestation here has shut as well apparently. Going down to my town centre later today so will be looking to see which GAME store, if either did, survived.

Very sad day for Game and their staff. I've always found the people who work there very friendly and helpful so it's a real shame to see a company who employ excellent retail staff go this way.

A complete list can be found here of Game & Gamestation stores that have closed

In my town Gamestation has closed, but not the Game, I will check later to confirm.
