Steam hacked, users warned personal info could have been stolen

Steam has announced that its servers were compromised last week
Quote:
However, the intruders also accessed a database featuring usernames, encrypted password data, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information.
Quote:
As a security measure, forum users will be required to change their password on their next log-in. It is recommended that users sharing that password with other accounts (Steam or otherwise) should be changed.

Steam is the latest games publisher to have its website hacked, with Sega, Codemasters, Bethesda and Nintendo suffering intrusions this year.

This is one reason I stopped using programs like this, the same goes for EAs version of steam.

In which case I assume you don't play many games anymore as without Steam or Origin many games simply will not operate, especially if you want to play online.

a case of changing ones password on the Steam account. I ensure all online purchases are made with a credit card, that the details are not stored online and that it has a limit. no biggy.
