Xbox and PS3 not showing media

I'm having a problem getting all my files that I have on my WD Elements 1TB hard drive to show up on any console. My current set up includes a VM Super hub (put in modem mode), a Netgear WNDR3700 router which has a USB port that the HD connects to.

I can see/watch/play all the folders on the drive if I'm using my computer or strangely when I'm using WMC on my xbox. If I try to view them by by any other means (media server) only one folder shows up and worst still only a couple of items are in it??

I have the same problem on both my xbox and PS3?? All media works fine if I put it on a stick and plug it in so I'm at a loss.

Any ideas?

2 ideas.

1 - is media share enabled on pc? if so have you added all the directories you want to share with xbox to the windows media player library?

2 - use a third party dlna server software. Id recomend tvercity http://tversity.com/ install on your pctell it what folders you wish to share then xbox and ps3 can connect to the tversity server no problem. check their website for more info if needed. another advantage itll play media formats not normally supported by xbox and ps3.

Re: Xbox and PS3 not showing media

Thanks for the reply Zanny, I've done all that and like I say, it works fine through Windows Media Centre on my xbox?? I'd really like a set up where my computer does not have to be on at all.

I was thinking maybe the WD HD isn't 'man enough' to allow my xbox or PS3 full access??

I'm going to try plugging the HD straight into my xbox and see what it shows then!!
