Tomb Raider Reboot
Well their going to try it again. A Tomb Raider reboot is due for next year. I for one am really excited as Square Enix are great at telling a storey and they should be able to do a good job with that side of things hopfully. Looks like they may be taking it to a darker place to. This will be Lara Croft from the start.

As we theorized last month, the January issue of Game Informer will, indeed, be showing off the latest iteration in the Tomb Raider series called, simply, Tomb Raider. Details are scarce, but we know it features Lara's first adventure in which she must struggle to stay alive

Darrell Gallagher, head of Crystal Dynamics, says we should "forget everything you knew about Tomb Raider" and that this is "an origins story that creates Lara Croft and takes her on a character defining journey like no other,"

Re: Tomb Raider Reboot
You know I think they have to have something quite extraordinary, brilliant and addictingly fun to pull back the original TR fans and to interest new gamers. I'm not sure about this 'forget everything you know about Tomb Raider' although it does need a major overhaul if the past five years is anything to go by.
I'd like to hear more about the 'dark story'. May pick up a copy of that mag next month.
Was there talk of a mulitplayer in this game or not?
Thanks icestar for the info.

Re: Tomb Raider Reboot
I hope the character improves, the cocky, over confident, oddly proportioned porn star they turned Lara Croft into was making her one the least likeable characters in video games. It was the same in every game, over the top British accent, whatever the cut scene she had annoying facial expressions and dialogue which ruined any attempt to create atmosphere or tension.
The new picture makes it look interesting and the premise makes it sounds good. A dark, difficult, story where it feels like the character is in danger, testing her limits, and reacts accordingly.

Re: Tomb Raider Reboot
I actually enjoyed the last two TR games. No there not what they used to be but games rarely are anymore with a few exceptions. I do have confidence knowing Square Enix are also working on it because if there's one thing they do well its character development and storey.
Looking forward to more information and remaining optimistic

The brand new Lara Croft will only be 21 years-old and, each time you make a mistake, you'll graphically see her demise: a boulder pinning her leg before another rumbles down and crushes her face, for instance, or a man brutally stabbing her chest before he stoops over to close her eyes.
The new Tomb Raider also ditches auto-lock aiming, according to NeoGAF's detail-pillage of the Game Informer piece. Crystal Dynamics says the new shooting system will compete with any other game out there - Uncharted obviously being the benchmark. To that end, the new Tomb Raider will employ a hefty dose of performance capture, and this will extend to the various other humans on the island.

The Tomb Raider reboot was unveiled yesterday. The story follows "a frightened young" Lara as she's shipwrecked on an island, alone. And this is no Isle of Wight - sounds like there'll be trouble ahead.

Bring back the boobs of old!

Seriously, I think this will need to do a lot better than the last few games, in this age of Uncharted.

Re: Tomb Raider Reboot
Good to see that they have taken off the 'auto-locking'.
I hope that we get to have more of the action this time rather than the cinematics doing the job for us as that was disappointing for me on the last game.
I wonder when the release date will be.

My guess would be end of summer or late winter next year.
