A Typical Night of Black Ops

It starts out with me and a few friends buying the shiny new game with all our high hopes that the developers learned from their mistakes from the last 3 games. We all say "But this one will be different. Surely they can't have the same problems again..." So we hop online and try to start up a party.
But wait, what's this? "Error" Johnny is not able to join the party for some reason. Oh well, while he resets his router and PS3, thinking it's his ISP or routers fault, others who did manage to join the room try to jump in a game. All seems well, but instead of joining a lobby, I get sent directly into a game. Oh, and look, no way to back out or check to see if my group is joining with me. Just as I feared, when I start the game and pull up the player list, I am the only one from my group that made it in the game. Well, lets message everyone and try it again.
(10 minutes gone so far)
Well, we get the group going again. Ole Johnny reset his stuff and made it in the room this time, but Jimmy, who was just in the party, now can't get in. Jimmy has a bit of an anger issue though, and just turns his PS3 off for the night. The group has re-gathered and off we go to a game. This time, we actually make it to a lobby, where we sit for 5 minutes while the lobby claims to be looking for suitable rooms to merge. Alas, we again back out and regroup.
(about 20 minutes wasted so far. Still no bullets fired)
Everyone gets back together in a party lobby, for the third time now, and we get into a lobby. Luck is on our side this time, because we finally all make it into the game, and get to play. YAY! (Usually somewhere during the game the host has to migrate, which then usually shuts down the room, but for the sake of an argument lets say we all finish the game) So, we finish the game and make it back to the lobby. We're waiting for the countdown for the next game, and then...WTF, the room shuts down, and half the group is sent back to the main menu. This is where the fun starts all over again, and we waste another 30 minutes trying to play a game that will last hopefully 5-10 minutes, before we are all booted for some reason or another.
That is my typically night on COD Black ops. Does anybody else have similar experiences?

Re: A Typical Night of Black Ops

Yeah I have similar problems , host migration is rubbish , still like the game even with it's faults which hopefully some will be patched. Having played hundreds of games on halo reach and NEVER being booted from a lobby and host migration working EVERY time it's very frustrating .

Re: A Typical Night of Black Ops

I have to say I haven't had any problems with parties and joining games (that's jinxed it..) but the host migration is annoying.

I get the same problems as above so Ive given up trying to play Black Ops on my PS3 its just tooooo annoying , xbox isnt much better but is at least playable.

I don't know about anyone else but I couldn't even sign in to PSN last night until late on, yet my neighbour who's with BT was playing fine on line.

I rang my mate in London who is on VM's 20Mbps and he couldn't sign in either which is odd.

There was a patch on the xbox last night so fingers crossed one will be on its way shortly for the PS3

Re: A Typical Night of Black Ops

This game could have been so much better if IW had made it... Instead its mediocre at best.

IMO COD isnt intended to be a simulator... so why take out all the stuff that made it fun.

If you want bullet drop and 50 second hardscoping. Go play arma 2

Re: A Typical Night of Black Ops

I have connection issues (outlined in another thread) so I welcome a patch!
I have tried various things to get on, and so far failed..

Not on topic but...

I reckon (and I would love to hear your thoughts) that COD would be great if it was like a MMORPG (like warcraft i assume but never played it).
Where if you could move from map to map and If you wanted to sit in a building a snipe all day you could.
Maybe with a subscription and a smaller initial game price.

just me? ah well ok then

They had an idea like that last year.. then scrapped it.. Thank god! It would utterly destory the call of duty series.

Treyarch are set for one more game before Sledgehammer take over

if IW had made it then it'd have all the same probs as mw2................

IW net..................fail
match making.........fail
IW........................fail & have done since cod4

at least with black ops there is a return to dedi's of sorts for pc's and rcon to rid yourselves of hacks/pita's

but the report on treyarch the report reads must/could do better, hopefully BC2:Vietnam will come to the rescue.

Cod 4 fail? The same game that? sold millions in weeks.. the only game that touched it was GTA IV.

We were all bored of the same old WW2 games and IW came to sense and rescued the fans. As an Arcade style FPS. Call of duty Modern Warfare 1-2 are the best available. However people moaned on day in day out how the game is unrealistic and 'BS'.. Ive never heard IW call any of their games realistic or a simulation. Like Ive stated. For all you people that want to play Realistic shooters.. there is Arma 2

On the other hand you bring up hacking and matchmaking.

Blackops is just as bad if not worse for both Hacking and Matchmaking? Are you sure you've spent over an hour online with this game?

Matchmaking is stupid. It picks the worst possible host in most games and drops half of your party to the main menu many of times!

Hacking has been took to a new level thanks to treyarch.. now we have little kids with wallhacks and whatnot in player matches.. without a JTAG.

Through the use of USB (No thanks to microsoft)

Blackops is good.. but will never reach hieghts like Modern Warfare.

fail 1, since cod4 - in reference to the time since cod4 was released, i was a big fan of cod4, until the hack came out big time on it.

i agree, at that time cod4 was what was needed to get a lot of fps fans interested in the cod/moh genre again.

every fps game need a certain level of realism or they'd all be easy or crap

at least with BO you 've got a choice of where to play, where as mw2 it's private match or matchmake - and as for hacking iwnet was a failure - worse than vac or pb. and as for your mocking "have i played it for over an hour online?" almost insinuates i don't know anything. well played it more than i can remember anf fps genre game for more years than i care to remember.

was going on long before treyarch with either this or WaW. in fact i remember hax going on with the SoF games.

time and $$$ will be the judge of that - according to activision. in fact i wouldn't be surprised if mw3 (or whatever they call it) is yet another clone.

Re: A Typical Night of Black Ops

Modern warfare 2 is still and always has been very broken , terrible lag , host migration has never worked properly , games finish early , glitches never fixed. Black ops is also pretty bad at the moment but at least give them time to patch the bugs out , when it does work (which in small party's it tends to work better than mw2 ever has) it's an excellent shooter , much more skill required than mw2 due to more recoil on the guns , kill streaks not counting towards your next kill streak is a huge improvement .
Both treyarch and infinity ward should take a leaf out of bungles book because halo reach puts them both to shame with regards to the whole online experience , I played over 100 games online team slayer and NEVER got booted from a game and host migration ALWAYS worked.

I agree. Playing in a party of 3 last night, every game ran smoothly no booting out of team members etc. but try playing with a party of 5 and oh my god
I also agree it's more skillful than MW2, and a hell of alot more balanced, espescially the perks.

Would that be IW who was behind MW2 the most hacked game of COD ever. MW2 is unplayable unless you don't mind playing against hackers, Black ops is going the same way. Played a Black Ops HC server last night were i would say 75% of those on the server were hacking

Re: A Typical Night of Black Ops

Well I've now downloaded the patch for the PS3 as of last night, and what a disappointment.

They have somehow managed to make things worse, now it takes numerous attempts just to get in a game, host migration is still broken, most of the time it wont allow me to vote on which map I want, bad spawns still happen, lag lag and more lag, matchmaking still suck's etc etc.

I can't see me continuing with this game on the PS3 at least
