Settlers 4, any similar games?

I've been a fan of the Settlers series since Settlers 1 on my trusty Amiga 600, and this weekend I just finished Settlers IV on PC.

I like the idea of building up from a tiny settlement to become a monster city with a powerful army against the odds.

I especially love watching all the little characters go about their business and gathering resources and the micro-management this gives.
Any other games which are similar? (and don't say Settlers V, that's already on my purchase list )

Wow, I'm behind the times when it comes to these games
My excuse is that they take so long to complete (4hrs+ per mission if you take your time like I do) that I rarely need to buy 'em.

EDIT: Upon reading Wikipedia about the games - it appears that I've actually completed Settlers V (although I played Settlers 4 too).

Re: Settlers 4, any similar games?

Civ 4 is the definitive game of that genre imho

Anno 1404 is also well worth a look.

Age of Empires is also a decent game of that genre.

Re: Settlers 4, any similar games?

Galactic Civilizations II might be worth a look. It's been described as Civilization in space. Also keep an eye out for Civilization V - out this September.

I've been into the Total War games, particularly Empire: Total War and Napoleon: Total War - the latter is more specific to that period, whilst the former can run over over a century.

They're cracking games and Empire inparticular you can pick up for next to nothing.
