PS3 or XBox360?

I am thinking of buying one of them but i dont know which one to get. I am used to the plastation paddles. I know Xbox has Halo which is a plus for that. But I also want to use it as a computor in my bedroom. So which ever one is better at online. Just give me your reasons why you like one of them.

Re: PS3 or XBox360?

The fact that you say you also want to use it as a computer steers towards the PS3, which does have slightly better graphics, blue ray and surfing capabilities.

I find the controller much smoother and more accurate when playing shootem-ups like cod4 +5, I also believe them to be a better built console having repaired a few in my time, coupled with the fact its free to sign up to the playstation network where as you would need to fork out every 12months for Gold membership with the xbox.

But and its a pretty big but, I still find myself using my xbox 360 more, partly because I like the way you can chat to your mates (in a private lobby)whilst being in different games, a feature not yet available with the PS3 AFAIK.

Re: PS3 or XBox360?

Too be honest I don't think controllers will be a issue, I easily adjusted to the 360 controller (I had a PS2).

I have spent many an hour chatting to mate on the xbox while playing different games.

Yes you have to cough up for the live gold account but its well worth it.

As for blue ray I don't have a HD TV to plug it in to so thats not a worry, plus the 360 is cheaper.

Re: PS3 or XBox360?

I should start by saying I have a PS3.

As the above poster says, technically the PS3 spec is better than the 360 but for online gaming, the 360 has the edge and although you do pay for the privelge of using XBox Live, it's good. Also bare in mind what systems your mates have if you want game online with them.

Just to throw a spanner in the works. I would go for the 360 anytime.

I'm lucky enough to have both and have Cod4+5 on both, so can compare like for like.

Bottom line is I could manage without my PS3 but I couldn't be without my trusty 360, when I can the Mrs of it of course.

Re: PS3 or XBox360?

I have a PS2 and wanted a BC one but couldn't find one that wasn't a king ransom.

So as my mates have one I bought the 360, never looked back.

Re: PS3 or XBox360?

I am also lucky enough to have both (even though my 360 is out of action at the moment) each has its own plus points :
ps3 has blu ray (even though to this day i have never played one in mine) and better graphics , free online service and some really good exclusives inc killzone 2 , unchartered 2, little big planet, it seems it is finally starting to warrant having one
The 360 has a far superior (imo) online service (even though you pay £30 ish a year) , loads of top titles , halo , gears of war , forza ,it is also cheaper to buy !! .

by the way , you have just opened a very large can of worms

"But I also want to use it as a computer in my bedroom. "

that means you can only get that from the Old PS3.

the 360 and the newer ps3 slim Do NOT allow you to install an OS and run them as a computer.

if you intend in the future to stream your SD/HD videos to the connected HDTV over a LAN using something like PS3 media server http://ps3mediaserver.blogspot.com/

that works with both 360 and the ps3 and several DLNA TV's etc, then again the PS3 has by far the better codec and container capabilitys, the 360 is very restrictive in the AVC/H.264 Encodes, containers, and bitrates it will play for instance.

so it comes down to what you want to do with your kit long term for the money spent etc.

The original poster can't decide which but starts the thread in the Playstation forum??? I think he/she has already decided subconsciously.

...or could it possibly be a flame post no.1??? Could be wrong.

Re: PS3 or XBox360?

I have both (Plus a strange white thing that is covered in a thick layer of dust). I play all my games on the 360. I occasionally watch a movie on the PS3, but otherwise it gathers dust too. Playing a game on it is ok, but a lonely affair imo. Xbox live and the way in which you are instantly aware of all your friends being online and the instant ability to chat/party with them makes the xbox my weapon of choice.
