Re: Mass Effect 2 (360/PC) [No Spoilers unless within Spoiler Tags!]
OK, I was planning on using the same save all the way through my play throughs but it's as a Soldier. From what I'm being told it's not what I should be using when I get to Insanity. The problem is my save as a Vanguard on ME1 is on it's second play through and I was an idiot and didn't make separate saves. Will it look for a previous play through if it's not completed or will it make me pick from the decisions from where I've up to?
Question. Do Ashley and Kaiden share the same role in this game depending on what decision you made in ME1?
Yup.

Sorry, I'm tired so it may not make sense.
You can only import the save from a completed ME1 playthrough into ME2.
But, don't worry about the character class. If you import an ME1 career into ME2, you will be able to change class near the start, if you want to.

You have, afterall, been brought back from the dead
Re: Mass Effect 2 (360/PC) [No Spoilers unless within Spoiler Tags!]
You mean you didn't do several playthroughs of ME1? :o
You really should create and play with at least 3 Shepards to explore the game and do all the sub missions that are dependant on your background (spacer/colonist/earthborn and sole survivor/war hero/ruthless)

I finally finished my first ME2 playthrough on Saturday evening, after around 50 hours.
[A chunk of that was probably wasted resource scanning, before I gave up scanning every planet & only scanned Rich ones; I also went to every planet of every system of every cluster & did every N7 mission I found]
I recruited everyone, & made sure that they were all loyal before triggering the end run.
Saved the galaxy, saved my team, saved myself. "No One Left Behind"
Absolutely awesome game. I want to play again already. My game of the year so far, & despite what's coming out later in 2010 I think it will remain my GOTY. I also think it's my favourite 360 game (beating things like Gears & Halo 3 etc.), & my favourite game on any platform this generation (beating multiplatform stuff like GTA IV & PS3 exclusive stuff like the excellent Uncharted 2 or MGS4).
I ended it with 100& Paragon & maybe 50% Renegade. The final choice I made was to

The guns aren't too good as a Vanguard, are they? The machine gun really isn't that good either unless you unlock better ones further through the game? Also, what choices did you make for the final mission?

Spoiler:
Maranda for both teams. Legion for the tunnels. Mordin to take crew back and Maranda with Grunt as my final team. Tali died for some reason.

Vanguards get SMGs, Heavy Pistols, & Shotguns. I was a Vanguard, but soon gave up on using the Charge power, & stuck to using SMGs/HPs most of the time. Don't think I ever used the shotgun.
My final choices:
Spoiler:
Section 1) -
Tali for the tunnels. Legion would work too. Some other team members have tech abilities, but none are pure tech like Tali & Legion.
Garrus for the Fireteam. Miranda also works. Apparently so does Jacob.
Miranda for my team, along with Legion.
Section 2) -
Samara for the Shield. Jack would also work (but would presumably need her specific Upgrade). Although Miranda & others have Biotics, none of them are pure Biotics.
Mordin for the Escort.
Garrus again for the Fireteam.
Miranda for my team, along with someone else I can't remember.
Section 3) -
Miranda & Samara for my team. Everyone else Held.The.Line.
Part three of section 3....OMG IT'S A GIANT TERMINATOR!!! <Pulled out my Cain> BOOM. BOOM. Scratch one Reaper.
Damien - Re the death you had
Spoiler:
What was Tali doing? Was she Loyal? Were the other Specialists Loyal?

Spoiler:
I did her loyalty mission but screwed it up so she wasn't loyal. I think a lot to do with it is the upgrades as well. Mordin survived this time because he had the tech tool upgrade. I got the biotic duration upgrade which i think helped me in that section as well

Spoiler:
Pick the wrong option on Tali's Loyalty mission, or did you lose her loyalty when she & Legion were arguing?
I used Charm to sort out Tali's trial...
- "Commander Shepard, do you have any evidence to exonerate Tali?"
- [Charm option] "I don't need evidence! Tali helped me stop Saren & save the galaxy, that's all the evidence required! This trial isn't even about Tali, it's really just about whether you'll be going to war with the Geth or not!"
Loyalty gained, plus case dismissed.
[Charm] again for her argument with Legion (same with Miranda & Jack's).
[Intimidate] would work, but my Renegade meter wasn't high enough.
Upgrades... yeah, I'd assume the unique character-specific ones do factor into it. The main ship ones you get off three characters *definitely* do (no armour, someone dies when the round things attack; no shields, someone dies when you go through the debris field; no guns, someone dies when you take on the Collector ship).
Loyalty is essential. Not sure if it's essential for *every* team member, but you do need it for any chosen Specialists, plus you need it for your final party members (not loyal > they die at the very end > Shepard dies as there is no-one to help pull him/her up when he/she jumps to reach the Normandy). Picking the correct Specialist is essential too... a non-pure-techy won't open the doors in time, a bad leader will screw up the fireteam, a non-pure-Biotic won't keep the shield up...
I really want to get started on a second playthrough. I have other games sitting there (including God of War Collection, which I've not touched since some time before Christmas), but all I want to do is play ME2
Someone on BXB has been off work all week with a broken collar bone, & has just finished his *second* playthrough (35 hours, after a 45 hour more thorough 1st one).
EDIT:
Anyone interested in what happens if Commander Shepard does not survive the suicide mission?
Re: Mass Effect 2 (360/PC) [No Spoilers unless within Spoiler Tags!]
It's gonna be interesting to see how the choices we made in ME2 translate to ME3. I think this game handles the idea of being a trilogy/multi-part series better than anything. The way the choices carry over and the excellent ending to ME2 which give a sense of closure but also set up the next game.
