A Sega Saturn that works??

Hi guys and gals,

I was hoping if anyone knew much about the Sega Saturn. I had one years ago and only want to continue playing for Panzer Dragoon Saga...but does every Sega Saturn around these days fail to work?

My Saturn wipes its memory every time I switch it off - I even have a memory card and it also wipes >that< when I turn the darn thing off!!

For a game that is worth at least £70, I don't to waste it with a Saturn that doesn't work...but I don't want to waste £10 on a console that will have similar problems - I'm only saying that, as after the year 2000 I started having this problem, as well as my mate with his. Millenium bug perhaps?

Any info would be appreciated!

I'm quite sure that the sega saturn used a battery backup system which might be why everytime you switch it off the games dont save!

Re: A Sega Saturn that works??

Without knowing anything at all about the Sega Saturn - it does sound like it has an internal battery for remembering essentials, that is bound to have died off by now if the console is eight or so years old.

Seeing as you have no warranty to void, I'd get a screwdriver out, see if you can spot it, and try changing it.

Ah, the Saturn....

Always regretted not having one... I remember playing Panzer Dragoon & Nights on a mate's Saturn & I thought they were great.

Re: A Sega Saturn that works??

Hmm, I suppose I could always tinker about with it and see what I can change inside...if all fails I can always buy another hehehe.

I know there's a lot of demand for it on the VC for the Wii...but I think it's too big to download...who knows. I've just never played a more enjoyable game where you can actually change the specs of your own dragon. Memories :P

I'll have to check out whats up with this backup battery system then to see what's going wrong

Re: A Sega Saturn that works??

Yeah, Saturn games are too big for the VC.

There is going to be a Wii version of Nights, though

you should replace the Lithium battery. Replace with a standard Lithium battery model #CR2032 available at your local pharmacy, convenience store, office supply store, or general retailers. Sega of America does not sell the Saturn Lithium battery as a replacement part.
Having had a look at one thats gathering dust in the back of a cupboard you should be able to swap the battery without any trouble. It's behind a compartment at the right-rear of the console.

Re: A Sega Saturn that works??

from a website about the saturn

Battery
Find the battery compartment located on the back left side of the console. Inside is the Lithium battery (shiny metal, about the size of a nickel). To activate the battery, remove the black ribbon underneath it. You can discard the ribbon. The system memory is now activated.
Presumably a CR2032 battery?
