World of Warcraft Noob
OK, i'm a veteran of mmorpgs but a noob when it comes to World of Warcraft.
Does anyone have any recommendations of anything i should do in this world to make the game a little easier. I don't fancy chopping logs to make my fortune!
I don't use cheats. i'm just talking regular haunts to kill things or anything like that which will make life easier.
Also, what's the housing system like on here?
Any cableforumers who play who would be willing to impart any advice?
Cheers.

Re: World of Warcraft Noob
I'm guessing a one?
Literally only booted up 5 minutes ago, but has a good feel to it.
When i said housing system, i wondered if there are houses/huts/whatever to buy or land to build on? Places to store stuff etc.

Re: World of Warcraft Noob
You do not ever buy land, its a very different game to that. You have a limited, but very well designed world. You store stuff in banks or bags. You do not have a house either.

Re: World of Warcraft Noob
Crafting system is relatively simple. You could even make plenty of money even without any trade skills. Grinding mobs selling drops etc.
I would personally advise against crafting permanent items as the skill becomes almost useless at endgame on a saturated server. (unless blizzard have new tricks up their sleeves).
Power levelling is only worthwhile imo if you want to get endgame raiding or pvp quickly. If your not competitive like that, I advise you enjoy the low level areas and quests.

Re: World of Warcraft Noob
from the time i was playing
which was like for 3 months after release (the game wasnt for me after i hit lvl60)
the only crafting skill that was making good money was enchating
dunno about the new jewel crafting now
other ways of making money was just grinding mobs
did make good money by selling drops and rare items in action houses
but i assume nowadays with most people already lvl60+
i doubt u can make much
especially the game making the top end weapons bound on pickup (wont let u sell it to other players) u cant make much money thru trade

Re: World of Warcraft Noob
Hi,
Like someone said before there is no land/houses/huts, etc to be bought just a bank for warehousing stuff There's no tree chopping either. As for money making professions I wouldn't go for enchanting on your first character as its expensive to level up. Gathering professions are probably the easiest way to make extra cash early in the game so I'd go for Mining/Skinning to be begin with. You could of course go for a more suitable profession for your class. It's up to you.
As for other MMORPG's which have you played also ? I've played Lineage2 before and found that WoW is a LOT less dependant on cash than that. In fact I'd even say you don't really require ANY gold except for buying skills or Mounts. You'll get plenty of gear from quests or drops.
Regards
Stoo

Re: World of Warcraft Noob
I've had PC problems, so haven't been able to get on again till recently!
The other games i have played are Ultima Online for about 7 years, Star Wars Galaxies for about a year and Anarchy Online for about a year.
I'm playing on Hellfire, which is pretty new as i understand it, so at least i'm not jumping in an economy where everything costs millions.

If you're a veteran MMORPG player, you might well find WoW quite boring and too easy. I don't consider the general community and playerbase a shining example either. It's the Counter Strike of the MMORPG world.

And that again depends on which server you play, Silvermoon is apparently a really nice one to play on with a great community. As is Aerie Peak.
Anywhere though, you will get annoying people

Re: World of Warcraft Noob
I consider myself a vet MMORPG player. I reached level cap in WoW and quickly became bored. EQ2 is losing its shine.
If you want housing you could take a look at Vanguard. Needs a hefty PC to get a good frame rate though (My machine chugged a bit in beta)

Re: World of Warcraft Noob
The Burning Crusade addon to WoW has added alot more, even though me mage is 70 and waiting on others, the instances etc is nicely designed this time around.
And a HUGE BG "eye of the storm" is fun for the PvP'ers with Flying Mounts.
to the Original Poster (OP) try a Warrior or Paladin as your first character, you will live longer and Paladins have the skill to heal themselves and others (warriors dont). That way you will explore more without being smacked about.
Once you have you feet dirty, perhaps consider a Mage or Warlock, or the Druids who seem to be very overpowered at the moment.
