The best game ever made?

So what is it then? The best game ever made since the conception of gaiming on home entertainment systems or PC's?

Is it PacMan, Galaga, Sonic, Mario, Goldeneye, SF2, Counter Strike, Civilization, Doom, Lemmings etc... All are great games which sold bucket loads but which one was the best game ever made?

Personally, even though i never owned it and played somebody elses to death im going for Super Mario World.

But hey - thats just an opinion - whats yours?

The game I played the most was called warehouse on the Acorn Electron. I'd have to say some thing like Elite would be the best game ever made. Mortal Combat rates highly also.

jet set willy on the amstrad 464 with colour monitor, and the only games i've stuck with to the end are... alien breed and another world on the amiga 500+. and the doom, quake collection on pc. I still play quake 2 and 3 online every now and then.

Descent on DOS. I couldn't stop playing that until I had completed it, even after I had completed it I had to go through it multiple times.

I tried descent, it just made me feel a bit sick after playing it for a few minutes.

Good question!

I can't even choose what I'd say was 'best' -- there have been a few that have kept me pretty addicted at the time!

Atari's Star Raiders & Joust kept young little KaySquirrel quiet and out of trouble!

I used to play Dungeonhack WAY too much on PC.

I think the one that I enjoyed most, and could NOT get enough of at the time was Dark Age Of Camelot (pre-Shrouded Isles). It was the 1st MMORPG (I know, I know..) I'd ever played, and the community of players was friendly and helpful. (Eventually botters took over, and the server population dwindled, leaving only power-levellers left, and it all went wrong after that.

) But the good times playing it stand out in my memory.

Nowadays I play Halo PC for the mindless multiplayer part of it, and OpenTTD when the hubby and I want a quiet night of gaming. I really really like OpenTTD, but.. still doesn't make top spot for me.

Nothing has quite matched DAOC. I think it has more to do with the people I met while playing, and not the game itself, but still..

Tank battle and pong on a homemade kit when I was a kid (late 70's)
Then on an old atari 800 we had Archon which was chess but with tank battle like fights excellent http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archon_(computer_game)

Goldeneye on N64 - the original stealth fps type thingy, i played it to death and completed it on all difficulty settings, quality game...

My best memories are of when playing video games was a treat . A sunday afternoon after hassling Dad in the morning to set up the computer and then waiting while the game loaded off a 5 and half inch real floppy. We are all spolit today
