Original Half-Life Help - I cant do the long jump

Hey all,
Im playing through the original Half-Life to finally try and finish it - you see - i never have and its all because i cannot for the life of me do the long jump.

If you goto the training mission and do the first few bits you come to a section where it explains how to do the long jump where you duck and then jump to jump further - but no matter how many times i tried, i canny do it - it will not do it.

I actually wrote the old PC off as the problem when i originally had the game years ago - thinking there was a dual key issue or something in the BIOS - but here i am - different PC, different game engine - and i still cant do this friggin jump.

What am i doing wrong?

I run up to the edge then just before press duck then jump - thats it - and i just fall into the gap every time.

HELP!!! - Serious rep points available.

Re: Original Half-Life Help - I cant do the long jump

Sorry dont bother - i found the answer over on the steam forums.

Apparently you have to press them both at the same time which is NOT what if fecking says in the game - now - because of how i have my keys set up i physically cant press duck and jump at the same time which is why i never did it or even fluked it before.

Ah well - another one of lifes mysteries solved.

I actually got given hl1 the other month - the question is, now that I have hl2 is it worth me playing hl1?

When I've finished hl2 I mean. I guess I could work through hl1 then, what do you think?

Only i dont and never have done - i use the numpad - well i used to anyway - but now i have a Nostromo N52 and used the same kind of key layout. To do jump and crough at the same time is not easy on my config.

4,5,6,8 Left, Back,right, forward.
7,1 jump / Duck
. Use

So when you left hand is on 8, 4 and 6 for forward and left / right, to jump is no bother, but to jump and duck is not easy as my pinkie isnt up for it.
dilligaf1701 - you really should be playing HL1 first as the story continues on from the first.

There are a lot of references in HL2 that are from HL1. Having played both, I think you should give HL1 a quick go. It's not that you wouldn't be able to play HL2 if you've never played HL1, but it would mean certain things make more sense.

Otherwise, it could be a bit like watching the Star Wars movies the wrong way round.
