Re: Far Cry 1.3 Patch Released...
I've been playing this a bit (Far Cry not the patch) whilst on holiday, and although it's very pretty, it's a bit disappointing in the gameplay department. Does it get better the more you play it, or should I not expect anything better than I've seen in the first parts?

Re: Far Cry 1.3 Patch Released...
I dunno.... it's more the AI than anything. Seems a bit undeveloped. And the game seems a bit too scripted too.

Re: Far Cry 1.3 Patch Released...
Actually,
I would agree with that - the AI is kack and the scripting woeful. Still enjoyed it but its an eye candy game as opposed to an immersive game.
Patch 1.3 still wont let me hear environmental sounds on my Audigy 2. I can everything except water / people shooting at me etc.
I've gave up.

You have to admit though... the sniper rifle is great... the feel is just right.
Nothing quite as satifying as a headshot from a mile away

What game are you comparing the AI to? I think it's far better than a lot of single player FPS's in that respect.
Not sure what you mean about the sound, did you miss a "hear" between 'can' and 'everything'? If so, I can hear people shooting at me and water effects with an Audigy 2 ZS.

Me too.
Check the settings in your THX/EAX control panel and also within the game menu itself.

Yeah i did miss out the "hear" there.. Doh!
AI is crap compared to say - Call of Duty... Medal of Honor etc... heres how you kill eveyone in an area on Far cry, Shoot the M16 in the air a couple of times, lie down on a path and wait for them to run right to you.
Or sit round a corner and watch as they run blindly round it to take the same headshot their buddy just did.
I will check my settings for EAX - but it works no problem for 5.1 films, Doom 3, and UT2004.
EDIT: its set up correctly - 5.1 and sync with control panel. THX panel test outputs to all speakers correctly sooo....

The AI in Medal of Honor is seriously nothing to write home about, I'd rate Far Cry's far higher. As for the sound, no idea I'm afraid, do you have a ZS or a plain Audigy 2?

Re: Far Cry 1.3 Patch Released...
As for the AI, CoD is far better, and for me, Counter Strike:Condition Zero shows how AI should be implemented. Haven't really played MoH so can't comment on that one.

Plain Audigy 2 - but i found a post on the Official Far Cry forums (which is a dire forum by the way)
which says
Quote:
Shwiiiinnng!!! Happy, happy, joy, joy! I found the fix!
For starters, I am using the drivers from the maker of my sound card (the SC3000L PCI Sound Card) which are their version of the C-Media 6.39. Probably the ones on the C-Media site will work the same, but just in case... http://www.edio21.com/support_download_soundcard.htm
Now the trick. In the Far Cry System.cfg it sets the min/max hardware channels wrong! The C-Media chip only supports a max of 16 and Far Cry sets it to 28, or 32? I forget, but it's too high.
So, setup the sound for 5.1, then manually edit the System.cfg and default_system.cfg in Far Cry\Profiles\player for good measure and set these 2 values like so:
s_MaxHWChannels = "16"
s_MinHWChannels = "12" (16 min will probably work, but...)
The magic setting is the s_MinHWChannels one. Far Cry tries to set minimum hardware channels to a value that is greater than the C-Media 8738's maximum support!
|
Changing the same value worked for me and gave me environment sounds - but can i ask somebody with an Audigy 2 where the sound is OK what there setting is at?
Ta

Re: Far Cry 1.3 Patch Released...
In the game menus I set it to Dolby Digital 5.1 and in the drivers, 7.1 (or 5.1 if you have that setup) in the THX or speaker settings control panel.
I thought the plain Audigy 2 supported 64 channels but I could be wrong.
My old SB Live supported 32.

Do you mean Surround 5.1 as dolby digital isnt supported by the Audigy 2 IIRC and as far as i can tell is not an option in the game either.
Also, can you tell me the setting you have in you system.cfg file for the, s_MaxHWChannels and s_MinHWChannels parameters please?
Would be nice to know.

My settings are as follows: In the game it's set to "Surround 5.1" (There is no option for Dolby Digital), "Enable EAX 2" and "Hardware Mixing", I've not touched the cfg file since the install. Under the Surround Mixer for the card/Speaker Settings, it's set to "5.1 Speakers" and "Digital Output Only" (I use a set of Inspire Digital 5700's. If you can get output from each channel using the THX Setup Console then there's no reason you shouldn't be getting all the available sound in FC.
